How to get food early game?

Hey guys, one question: how do you get food in the early game, before you have the food-grower to use the seeds to grow food for yourself? I just started playing today, and try to make it in hardcore mode because i loved the tension it gives in subnautica, and just had my first death in Planet Crafter because of starvation. Besides the starting good in your base, i could only find a single food in all the blue crates that i found in my playthrough. Is there a more reliable way to get food early, or are you simply forced to explore way more out of the map, in hoping to find blue crates that contain food?

First build your "Screen - Blueprints" this will direct you to which blueprints, and which aspect you should focus on (heat, pressure, oxygen). For food growers you'll want to push oxygen.

If you start standard, head North to the big wreck, typically plenty of flowers there for oxygen boosts.

Typically I start with about 6-8 drills, and about 3 vege tubes before I go to that area. But, it all depends on how much food you have at the start.

On Hardcore the selected map is meteor crater and at least in my first try i didnt spot any wreck at all! But maybe i was just unlucky with the places i explored, i will try again tomorrow, thx for the tipps! :)

For Metor Crator head East towards the (currently barren) waterfalls, you'll see a tall standalone mountain to the south once you get over the hill and enter the plains.

If you hit the dark space looking zone you've gone too far

The crater doesnt have a wreck in it, but if you search around you will find a ladder you can use.

The ladder is South East of Craters Northern Cave, just beyond the bottom of the hill of the crater
