I guess the mammals don't have a sweet tooth.
I never tried the Space food or HQ Food...
I only ever used Cocoa for everything, so they may not like it, but they'll eat it to prevent starvation, I guess :)
Other than that, some people have mentioned that they don't provide Genetic Traits when pet if they're too hungry. I've had them provide Traits at 32% hungry, so I don't know about that.
I found a Bioluminescence 9 trait in a wreck and I've managed to harvest several more from the animal I put it in.
I put HQ food on demand in all my feeders. My auto crafters make plenty of it so no issue there. Petting animals is the best way to get genetic traits. I usually experiment until I find the variations that I like and then build colonies in different biomes. If you pet your animals frequently, you will get the variants, species, patterns, etc. that you like best as well as random others. They do need to be fed to provide traits. I personally only use Biolume level 1 as the higher numbers make things so neon I can't look at them. Lol.
