Woes with 1.0 on Linux
So I installed The Planet Crafter after about a one year break from the EA. Back then I could run the game via proton quite easily. But that is somehow not the case anymore for reasons which elude me...

I can start the game with the 1.0 update, yes. But get no sounds or music at all. The opening video about the landing also appears to be quite choppy and delayed. I

tried using launch options like
gamemoderun %command%
,
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
and
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
. But apparently setting any kind of launch option makes the game not start at all. :steamfacepalm:

Suffce to say I tried various proton versions as well. Including but not limited to Proton Experimental, GE-Proton9-2 and others. But to no avail. I am on KDE neon 6.0.

Anyone else run into similar problems? Or perhaps know how to fix it?

Turns out switching to the Dev Beta branch, or uninstalling/reinstalling/verifying for that matter, doesn't help either. It's a clean install: no old files from the EA or mods.

Hello. I just bought the game on launch, remembering something like 50 perfect reviews from protondb users last month. I should have looked again because after the last update a few "new version make it unplayable" comments started coming in : https://www.protondb.com/app/1284190 . And judging by your own comment the situation is still unresolved.

For me the "buy" button worked perfectly. Yes, the button on that page that say "steam deck compatibility : VERIFIED !" with a green checkmark... But now the "Install" button is greyed out :(

I don't have much confidence if it's working one day and just suddenly stop working, so unless there is some good news soon for linux users i will just refund.
I guess I'm just spoiled by the "everything game i buy from steam works perfectly on linux nowadays" syndrome, something that I should not take for granted.

Oh, it does run on the Steam Deck for me without issues. It is with my main Linux PC rig I have these audio problems with.

If the install button is greyed out you didn't enabled proton compatibility in properties and/or settings. That step is needed because there is no native Linux port for Planet Crafter. Once you do this the installation proceeds normally.

I wonder if maybe this game is suffering the same problem as another Unity-based game I know of...

If so, then check your audio manager while the game is running to make sure it's outputting to the correct device (the problem with said other game was that Unity was setting it to the wrong output). If it's incorrect, change it and you should have sound again. Unfortunately, if this is what's happening, then you'll likely have to do this every time you launch the game.

I'm on PopOS and the games runs perfect for me using Proton Experimental with NO launch options but I'm on KDE 5.27 though.

This appears to be the case.

I have a bluetooth adapter for earbuds and a wired headset connected to my PC in case the buds run out of power. Very annoying indeed needing to switch audio channels each time for booting the game. Or having to unplug one of the two devices.

Really hoping devs can iron this issue out in the future. Having the game remember the audio output device would go a long way here.

I'm having no issues running on Fedora (Linux fedora 6.5.12-100.fc37.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon Nov 20 22:28:44 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with Proton 8.0.5 (my default for Steam right now) & GNOME 3.

What audio software are you using? I bounce between pipewire and pulseaudio depending on the situation, with pipewire being my primary because that's what Fedora prefers. If other games work, you might want to try running `pactl subscribe` to see if there are any unusual disconnect/reconnect cycles on your hardware.

Besides that, have you tried running with `PROTON_LOG=1 %command%`? Unity doesn't provide amazing output but sometimes you can get a hint about what's going wrong.

No issues for me using Mint 21.3. Worked out of the box and been playing for hours no real issues. Proton Experimental. Could have sworn I saw they had a Linux native version.

I'm on Ubuntu and the game launches but I cannot click on anything on the main menu. The menu music is perfect though.

My bad, it's working too after forcing proton :)

I've never had a problem with The Planet Crafter under Linux. I use ArchLinux. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of Polish diacritics in the font used in the game. Is this something that can be changed in the Steam configuration?
