Question about rising water levels
Hello,
Loving the game so far, but was hoping for an answer about the slowly rising water levels, as I advance towards lakes from the liquid water stage.
One of the messages received on the comms device said that it's advisable to build at an altitude, and I'm starting to see why it's important, as if things go further, my base will be underwater.
My question is, should I begin the laborious task of disassembling my entire base, and reassembling it at a higher altitude? It's starting to become fairly sizable, not to mention all the work put into getting the inside to look the way I wish. Or will there be some type of underwater traversal tools later?
Thank you for reading.

There will not be anything for helping with underwater. You definitely need to rebuild on a higher attitude.

If you start your base right next to landing pod then yes, you are in trouble ;-). On the other hand: I dont know how much stuff you have there, but if you spend 10-15 minutes on deconstructing and constructing again, just 200 meters away it should be fine. While deconstructing you get all materials used, so it is always 1:1 ratio.

Ah, yes.
Maybe I'll take this opportunity to build the base bigger and better. :D

Im only 31 hours into the game, but just learned good advice: dont hoard stuff. Early everything seems usefull, but later in the game... not really. Some guys store things directly on the ground, since once you touch something, it is already "locked" in the game, it will not dissapear. My current base is filled with cupboards with metals and everything - I have so many of them that I cant find anything ;-P. So I think the less the better, keep just most important stuff.

Keep in mind, higher altitude is not that high. The water will come up to cover anything at 25 altitude, 26 remains high and dry. Bottom left has the altitude, xxx:altitude:yyy.

Thank you, that is very helpful!

First time I played I had to move my base due to rising water, and it felt like a brilliant part of the game and something that would happen to me in real life.

I guess in real life you would expect that being on the bottom of the valley is not a best choice ;-P. On the other hand, this is really interesting: on non-earthlike planet it could be a very interesting choice, whether to build on the bottom of the terrain or on the top, depending on enviromental conditions (like hurricanes, direct sunlight exposure ect).

I did find it slightly annoying that there's no indication of what's safe. I knew my early base was in trouble but I didn't know just how high I had to build. Once I hit lakes, I wasn't entirely sure the water was going to stop or if it was going to keep going up and I was afraid that if I kept investing in my base, I'd still have to move it. But once you hit lakes, the water doesn't go up any more.

Great info in this thread, thank you all. May your waters forever rise high, but only to the walkway of your base.
