New base flooded.
Hey all, I just purchased this game last night and i am about 6hours in. I'm being told my base will be flooded where I've built. I'm curious as to how many people have gotten screwed over due to this lame spawn point being at the bottom of a dried up lake. Everyone keeps telling me to move all my stuff, but I'm still curious as to how many people and what percentage of players have had to move their base. Seems like a really bad design that a lot of people have wasted time with.

On the first play through, probably everyone! Certainly happened to me.

I'd say almost everyone who played the game cold. Its a high percentage.

Seems like a dumb mechanic that has no real gain out of it. so it screws over everyone and pumps up play time, and the only way to learn is to have it happen. I wonder how many people have just stopped playing due to this. if EVERYONE just deals with it and moves their base why has it not been more of an issue, it is a seriously bad game design.

You do actually get a warning if you build the sat dish and comm monitor. But it usually comes after you build your starter base.
You can think of it as the tutorial. Starting over from there is pretty early and then you will know what to do and pick a better place to settle down.
Also, people who played the demo/prologue will know what is going to happen.

The ONLY reason it didn't happen to me was because I learned about the game, in the first place, by watching a YouTuber play it and thought I'd like it... I was forewarned, because it happened to him. lol

I can understand where you are coming from but the warning is very vague, it does not tell you how high the water will rise or if i'm actually in an area of worry or not. "you have a greater chance of success if you build your base at an altitude, I'm not sure why yet" is all Riley says to you in his "warning message." if the demo/prologue is that important it should be forced to do before the main game is unlocked. Ive already wasted 1 hour starting to move my stuff and have not even made a dent :steamfacepalm:

Dang, almost like having some sort of knowledge prior to starting it helped :steamhappy: LMAO

luckily I saw a video about that and moved everything up on the flat area. Nice thing is you can destruct your stuff and rebuild very easily.

Yeah it's not hard moving everything. It's time consuming. My inventory is only so big and I have built a nice sized base. Still seems like you only knew because of a third party though. Thanks for the feedback!

Me too. I don't like surprises much, so I usually watch a video on how to start playing any new game. So I saw that you needed to build the first base at altitude 26.

In any game, site selection is crucial to the playing experience especially concerning terraforming in-which rivers and lakes could flow in low lying areas. So select well situated higher areas. I now have beach front property but I get a lot of meteors unfortunately. ;)

I build strategically, I start on the edge of the lake where I know it will flood and build up until I am above the water level and bridge over to the land. I make it all windows so I have an underwater viewing base.

Is what it is but I feel like you should be able to counteract it with floodgate or ability to terraform the ground. Build a big hole and let it redirect- something!

I’ll be honest I’m at that stage now too and it’s stopping me from playing as can’t be bothered to move it all. Risky choice from devs for sure.

You now get a warning about flooding and to build above a certain elevation in the message you get in your escape pod.

Edit: Not in the escape pod but from the comm screen before the water starts rising.
