I started a new save with this major update, and I put a refiner down and I thought I was in the aluminum area, went back to it and found everything except aluminum and here, for some reason, I was juuuust outside the area. Look at the icon of the ore it's telling you that it's gonna get, and if I had done that I would have noticed the error.
I have looked at the icon. I am well into the aluminium area, and the icon shows cobalt.
I still haven't found where I can extract aluminium, but maybe in time I will. If not, I can disassemble the super alloys and get some that way.
That's where I finally found it, behind an ice wall (after it melted of course).
I'm having great difficulty finding a place where I can extract sulfur. The sulfur I find on the ground is finite, and I'm very close to running out.

I've never used the GPS rockets because in the vanilla game I know where everything is anyways, so I didn't know they showed the location of the ores. In my current (random ore distribution) game I've only gotten to T2 GPS rockets so far.
I wonder if GPS rockets show ore distribution in a random distribution game.
Unfortunately, that information isn't available until moderately late game. It doesn't help the person starting out in a random-ore game. :-(
