Cross "platform" multiplayer

I have a friend who bought this game on GOG, and i bought it on steam, but the networking for the 2 is different, and have found no way to get them to connect to each other, is there some way you could just add the GOG IP connect ability to the steam version?

Thank you! Based on another post that said cross platform would work through discord, I got the game for my partner on GoG, while I already had it on steam. However there was no invite option in discord. By simply starting the exe directly instead of through steam, we managed to connect by ip!
