Wait game won't run on Win 7 anymore?
Hello.

I didn't play since release anymore(not 1.0) now i tried it won't start. Checked steampage and says Win 10/11. I get new games need 10+ but it worked on 7!!! Is there a fix? I'm handicapped and use stuff that won't run on 10(mostly custom). Why brick it for 7? :(

I know but the game worked on 7, steam let's you backup games(in case steam evverr goes bankrupt etc), had i known an update breaks it on purpose i wouldv'e saved the last version. Admin didn't work :(

Thank you. Guess there's no way to play a version before that? @Dev is there a beta code for that?

If i remember correctly Steam is dropping Support for Windows 7 ...
Air Bear Jun 12, 2024 @ 6:54pm
"OEM sales of PCs with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed ended on October 31, 2016. The sale of non-Professional OEM licenses was stopped on October 31, 2014. Mainstream support for Windows 7 ended on January 13, 2015. Extended support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020." - Wikipedia

So it has been 8 years since Microsoft let Windows 7 be pre-installed on machines. And 4 years since security patches (aka extended support) were released for it. The longer you go without upgrading, the more vulnerable you personally are. It really isn't on devs to make their games and software backwards compatible for a very small minority of users.

I get it though, I liked 7 more than 10, but I've been using 10 for 4+ years and its fine. Not looking forward to upgrading to 11.

this isnt a steam approved answer im sure, go to gog and buy it there and you get to download just the actual game files and dont need steam or the gog equivalent at all,

The issue ain't steam. The issue is the game worked last time i played. There must be a way to get old version. That's why i hate game auto updates. I sure as ♥♥♥♥ don't expect a dead os supported now, but i did buy it for 7!

BTW i tell everyone to upgrade too, even gifted ppl Win 10s, but this here: "It really isn't on devs to make their games and software backwards compatible for a very small minority of users." BACKwards? It released with Win 7 Support! That's why i bought it.

Back when Win7 was still supported by Steam it was released into EA with a big warning that things will change. You had to have some idea that this was going to happen to you at some point with some game when you decided to stick with such an old OS. Less than half a percentage point of people on Steam use Win7. Time to move forward and evolve.

Guess i didn't see the warning? Thanks. I really hate always on, ALL my old boxed games work decades later on the OS they released on. Guess i'm a dying breed to expect that. Does GoG have a version or only the newest like steam?

Those are completed games that aren't being supported (updated) anymore. I'm guessing that EA isn't really your thing if you're expecting the same before full 1.0 release.

I know what you mean, but i am not talking about content. I even had games that where it ran fine but then dev changed engine and minimum reqs. Should at least offer an old build.

Yea, back in the day, WebSite Developers had to make TWO versions of their Websites at one point as well.
One website was specifically made for people who refused to stop using Internet Explorer 6 that came with WIndows XP, and another website for THE REST OF THE WORLD.

That was a real pain, because IE6 wasn't compliant with Web Standards at all, so when you made a Website, it was guaranteed not to work with IE6, forcing the Web Dev to make two versions, for the people who refused to upgrade.

It was a crappy time for Website Devs, thanks to people who never upgrade.
