Why aren't my auto crafters working?
I've got two auto crafters, one set to make Pulsar Quartz and the other making Solar Quartz. These are the only two quartz types I can currently craft.

The auto crafters are in one 2x2 room and my storage area is in an adjacent 2x2 room. The storage area has T3 containers of Osmium, Zeolite, Iridium, Uranium, Sulphur, and Obsidian. These are constantly being filled by drones from T3 ore extractors (when not already full).

In the same room as the two auto crafters I've got two T2 containers, one being filled with methane by drones from two T2 gas extractors and the other being supplied nitrogen.

My two auto crafters are currently doing nothing. What have I done wrong? It's kinda hard, impossible even, to know if the storage containers are within range. The auto crafter UI is basically useless.

If you can pick the item to build in the Autocrafter UI, then it's in range.

I've noticed that sometimes my autocrafter will pause for a long time

Make sure you have all the materials needed to craft the objects.

All storage is full of everything needed for Solar and Pulsar, the auto crafters allow me to select Solar and Pulsar in their UI so I guess that means the ingredients are in range. And of course I have plenty of power. Also, I've made sure the supply and demand logistics have been set up correctly, though I haven't set any priorities for any of my supply and demand chains.

Well, if you look at the UI for the autocrafter and see the list of items within range you can tell if your storage containers are within range although you can't tell what's in each one. If the number of storage containers within range looks right then I guess its time to do what everyone always says, stop and restart , etc, etc, etc. It sounds like you have the ingredients. Otherwise I don't know for sure.

Maybe one of the ingredients storages is too far away.

But I thought if the item comes up to be selectable it means the ingredients are within range..?

This is not correct. You can select anything you can craft regardless of what is in range.

You could try moving the 2 autocrafters over into the storage building and see if they work then. Could be a range problem.

I dunno. I was just quoting what Spocks Toupee said above.

It will take just a minute to move the crafters just to find out if they work if they are closer. Experimenting is how you learn new stuff.

Have you unlocked the recipes? You need blueprints for them.
by the sounds of things you are demanding supplies to an auto crafter. Check the crafters storage for goods that it wants and if you are demanding good to the crafter.......stop that now. add a few storage boxes next to the auto crafter and let it pick the items up from the storage. then select the crafter to supply and make a storage to demand quartz to empty the crafter.

Place it down, and open its interface and it will display a neatly organized list, on the right, of everything that is in range. The input is any item on the ground and anything with storage.

I moved them exactly two meters and they worked.

Glad to hear it. Sometimes the simple solution just plum evades folks.

I disagree. On my 1440p monitor it's on the right, but when you mouseover, the list overlays stuff below and is basically unreadable.

Also, it does not display contents, but Tier 2 Storage etc so there's no way to know what's in it.

I do not consider it neat or easy to track down.

It'd be great to have a Tier 2 Auto Crafter that a) had it's own input/output storage and b) put a number on the items it needs.

When you select a thing for it to make, such as quartz, there should be space below the selection to list the actual ingredients. Each of those should have a number on it, so you see '20 iron'.

Or some variant of that sort of stuff, but only as a Tier upgrade.

They could fix the overlay thing though and also it could read the name I've set for that storage instead of Tier 2 Storage. Then I could at least see the boxes its' using and work out which is which. And obviously it shouldn't be mouseover, it should at most be fold out so you can properly inspect it.

All relatively low priority stuff though in terms of QOL improvement or updates.
