All of the previous limits have been similar (usually 1% iirc).
So chances are that you're going to be between 0.2 and 2% to the next phase after mammals. But if you're like many of us, you'll just start a new game once 1.0 is out anyway.
It's no fun just getting the new content and being immediately bored because you've already unlocked everything. With any luck they'll change the way save games work for 1.0 so that older games are incompatible, don't even show in the list, and force people to start over.
Gah! Please don't even suggest that older game saves won't be compatible at official release. I have 600 hours in this game and I'm rather attached to my planet. It's right where I want it to be and I've sunk so much effort into creating a tourist world with guest facilities and gift shops and a restaurant. I've earned over 2 million TT with my 2 little rockets plus portal. And the planet is finally generating its own life. I am anything but bored.
If they release mammals at 1.0 and I have to start over again I will be a decidedly unhappy camper. I reached mammals stage a while ago. Just waiting for them to be implemented. It would truly SUCK if I had to start a new game to get there. I may want to play the game over with different variables once I feel finished with this first save. But not until then.
id rather them reset the planetary progress instead of making saves incompatible
Maybe I'm not understanding, but what would be the difference? If planetary progress is reset, you're basically starting over.
what im saying is you keep your base, unlocks etc but the progress bar is back to 0
All games have always had their save game data be incompatible with their launch version.
This is especially true for online / multiplayer games (and this is coming with multiplayer mode).
If they don't do that (which i've never known a game to do), then people will just continue on with their existing save, will miss a lot of the new features/quality of life changes, potentially miss story plots etc... potentially have a corrupt save because of changes, and won't get to experience the game as intended or will think it's broken.
They'll typically give up very early on because it's not really different from when they were 'testing' it.
It's very very unlikely that your save games will continue on. If you want them to, then you probably don't really understand the point of early access.
They have said that the save games will be compatible all through early access as much as possible, but can't guarantee if they'll be compatible on release. I think it just means they haven't decided if they want to invalidate old saves or not.
So I would 'expect' that your existing save games DO NOT work. If they do and you're able to play them, good on you I guess. Personally i'm not sure why you'd want that, but yay.
Happy Terraforming.
It would also just cause your game to be bricked for 2 minutes while you wait for your Ti to grow from 0 up to #Ti where everything is unlocked.
The rate that you unlock things in current end of content is so much that if you're at 100% Amphibians, you'll immediately hit some % of fish as soon as the game starts and hit amphibians in mere seconds/minutes thereafter depending on how far you push.
So yeah, it would be completely pointless.
I understand what early access is. And you are most likely correct about the compatibility of old saves and the reasons for excluding them, which is sad. What I would have liked to see happen is at least for mammals to release before the official version. I really could not care less about multiplayer, but that's just me.
As to why I would want existing game saves to have the option to continue, that's simple. This game is, in its essence, a story. Convict dropped on a barren rock in space attempts to bring life to a desolate world and redeem whatever crime they supposedly committed in the process. Finds alien sites with a story of their own. Has mysterious communications with a friend within the corporation that dumped them there, etc. For some this is a raw numbers game, for others a sandbox to build interesting factories and buildings in, we all have our styles of play.
I'm a writer, which undoubtedly plays into this perspective. Lol. I want to finish the story. I want to finish it with this planet I've put 600 hours of survival, effort and design into. (and God the thought of replacing all those metal lockers with the new ones again is a tiresome one)
@wyldfae28: I think I'd like to visit your world. Well said! :-)
Has anyone actually seen anything definitive from the *developers* about EA saves being accepted or not in the 1.0 version?
There's been no decision on whether or not that carries through to 1.0 though.
Thank you. We would be happy to have you as a guest. :) Actually I wish that's what multiplayer in this game was going to be. Not starting a planet together but the ability to visit other player's worlds. Just to see what they chose to do with them. Would be really interesting to tour other planets.
Now would you prefer the cliff side view?

There are 7 other wonderful locations to choose from at present if these don't suit your style. Just bring lots of terra tokens. ;)
Jokes aside, it was really fun designing all the different cottages and facilities. Always wish for more to work with. Gotta add fireplaces now. If nothing else, I enjoyed my time with Planet Crafter, and with this community. Still hoping against hope they let us keep our saves. But if not, it's a game. I have many more to get to. But this game ended up meaning more to me than I anticipated and that credit goes to the developers who started with a vision. I hope they continue that vision to a satisfying conclusion for everyone who has been with them since the beginning.
