How high does the water get?
I am at 30 feet, moving everything to 90 feet, but am worried that it won't be too long until that will be too low too. I have destroyed most of my heaters to try to slow the water down. I am not sure if that will actually help.

depends on where you build. where I have currently built 30 was fine. of all the places I built I haven't seen the water above 83 doesnt mean theres not exceptions of course.

Not sure what you mean by feet (where you take that number from), but if you look at your coordinates, the middle one is height and if build above 25 (Starting Area) you'll be fine.

I am just used to using it as a unit of measurement. Force of habit. Hopefully by the time we start terraforming planets everyone will be using metric.

The water level varies, it is not uniform throughout. The main lake (default start location) tops out at 25m. A 1 minute walk to the north there is a pond that tops out at 6m, and the Waterfall wreck pond is around 75-80m.
The best advice I can give is: don't build in a hollow or depression and you should be alright. The starting lake is the only large body of water, most of them are more like a large pond... :-)

and destroying youre heaters has no effect. you have reached a high enough TI score that ice starts melting. this cannot be undone or slowed. but trust me, water isnt a problem. it forces you to relocate once. and that does give you a chance to rebuild youre base with new unlocked items.

From the stardart pod point I'd say 5-6 stairs is enough height to avoid the water
