I would agree with this. There isn't really anything mind-blowing unlocked by activating those ship generators. Go ahead and save it until you've got a stable setup and the ability to reliably manufacture your own Pulsar Quartz and just pick whatever wreck you want to start with.
There's a few in the Meteor Field (unlighted area that looks like glittery coal), a couple at the top of the Waterfall hill, and a few in a cave between the Crater and the Highlands. That's about all that I know of until you start getting Pulsar Quartz meteors or the ability to craft them.
There's a cave with some as well, though you can't mine pulsar, obviously. IIRC, its sealed by ice until a certain heat index is reached. Like others have said, I think its a better strategy to use your pulsar crystals to make fusion generators before you start powering up wrecks. A single fusion reactor lets you power up a lot equipment, and by that stage, you should have a decent amount of automation in place, as well as more seeds and jars than you could want.
Remember that loot changes based on terraformation stages.

As always, wikis can container spoilers. There is an Expand link to open up the loot table as an actual table.
