Start by building a small base at elevation 26 or higher (if you started in the standard starting area), collect resources, build power, and improve your technology (backpack, O2 canister, microchips, etc.) and explore.
In the early game I always bring along at least three oxygen bottles, one food, and two water bottles. I will travel only as far as one oxygen bottle will allow me, and use a second one to return. The third oxygen bottle is for emergencies, in case I get lost or don't make it back in time.
The vegetable tubes, as starlight78sso explained, are for increasing your oxygen, not for growing food. When your TI is high enough you will get T1 Food Growers, where you can place either mushroom, squash, eggplant, or bean seeds in them for food.
Depending on your setting, you may need as many as three food growers to keep you in a constant supply of food. On the "relaxed" setting, where food and water needs are minimal, you only need two food growers to have more than enough food.
You will need more food growers for growing other ingredients, such as fertilizer, bioplastic, and explosive powder, but not until mid-game. By late game you may have as many as twelve T2 food growers.
You will collect those seeds, prepackaged food, and other resources, from the blue chests you find laying about and in the various ship wrecks.
If you find yourself running low of aluminum, for example, and wish to build a mine, I would suggest you build a single dwelling with a door and two lockers next to your mine. This would not only allow you to refresh your oxygen when you visit your mine, but also give you a place to temporarily store resources you don't want to bring back right away.
You do not get to determine what resources your mine will produce. By placing them in certain areas they are likely to produce more of one resource than another. Such as aluminum when the mine is placed in the aluminum area of the map.
The other more rare resources, like iridium, uranium, osmium, super alloys, etc. require a T2 or T3 mine. A T1 mine will not produce any of the rare resources.
You will most likely be moving and rebuilding your base several times before you are happy with it. Just remember that you can always build vertically.
Sounds like I have to expand my backpack and take the basics with me to set up another shelter on the way, I added the torch but when I went into the ship the torch didnt turn on for some reason. I am not sure why. I must of done something wrong.
From what I am understanding, this game is a slow process and through exploring and gathering for the most part early game. The issue is the map is vast and to get resource back home is alot of going back n forth. and chests everywhere until you get lockers......
I cant build or expand my base until I have enough resources at the moment I only have like 5 rooms and I want to expand out but not sure of build dynamics of this game especially building up. I have unlocked the ladder.
I also went outside and tried to add another building to the side of mine and it wouldnt add yet there is nothing around it or on the ground and it is sort of level ground. So not sure what is going on there either........
So from what I am assuming I need the drill to unlock for me to mine resources is that correct?
Building is kind of janky as you aim at the anchor point for a particular building, which sometimes clips through the ground and shows as unbuildable. Broadly speaking you can snap living compartments next to each other in any configuration, but you may need to wave the mouse around a bit to find the "right" spot, and when it's there you'll see a chain icon appear showing it's being linked to the previous module.
Just a small correction: A T1 mine in the sandfall cave will dig iridium. Otherwise, you are correct.
I was able to get by with 25 wind generators and 10 solar panels before I built my first nuclear reactor. Don't worry about expanding your base yet. It just needs to be big enough to hold your Crafter, a couple of vegetable tubes, a heater or two, and a bunch of lockers.
Focus on getting your backpack, oxygen canisters, and microchips developed. When exploring carry around three iron, two titanium, and one silicon. That way you can always build a shelter with a door and refresh your oxygen. You can either build, use, and then disassemble them, or build them in strategic locations and leave them.
Drills, as has been mentioned, are for increasing the pressure of the atmosphere. They are different from Mines. You will want to build a few drills to increase pressure.
Try to build as many T2 and T3 vegetable growers, heaters, and drills as your power will allow you before you build your rocket pad. Your first rocket will multiply your values by a factor of 10.
When building your final base, assuming you started in the standard starting area, make certain you build your foundations at elevation 26 or higher. In the lower-left corner of your screen you will see thee numbers separated by colons. The first number indicates your North/South latitude, the middle number is your elevation, and the third number is your East/West longitude.
Right now I have 2 areas, one cube with vege tubes in it mostly T1 right now as nothing will go in my T2 at the moment. the other area is a 4 x 4 cube near it with the other basics in it, desk, monitors, crafting and chests galore etc and heating as well.
I am suited up with everything except for the agility suit and the exo skeleton right now, I think they will be the next I am after.
For my location i am to the east of the aluminium area I think it is. West of the aluminium area is a massive ship with lots of goodies in it. I havent got to that yet as I attached my torch but it doesnt turn on when i go into dark areas. So not sure what I did wrong there.
Also this going back n forth storing things in chests and carting them back to base is a bit annoying. When exactly do lockers come into this? Surely they will be alot better for storage than what I am currently managing. Also I have to go exploring soon anyhow as i have to keep going until i get the vege tubes to sustain myself. Also ice is an issue in the area I am in as well.
That is my current position right now. Also frustrated as I am on a level area yet the rooms wont attach to the right of me yet nothing is there to stop it and the ground is level. I thought of building up but then again I dont know how the game mechanics work and dont want an open area with a ladder etc. I would like some sort of floor to at least stand on.
Sometimes there is a hitbox that you cannot enter near walls and stuff. Sometimes i can see a resource and can not get near enough to mine it. Usually from meteors if it happens.
I have better luck trying to attach rooms from the inside, but then I always build on foundations to start. (It helps me to keep stuff level.)
For the first 1x1 room I will build 5 foundations in a cross pattern. I can then stand on one of the outside foundations and center the room on the center foundation. I then attach all rooms from the inside except the round corner pieces. (I need to be able to see the rotation on them to make sure they fit the way I want them.)
If you look at the blue print screen it will tell you when stuff unlocks. Once you start making biomass there is an icon on the left of the screen that will shift to that screen also. If it does not show an unlock on either of those 2 screens it is usually one of the blueprint chips you have to find. Those you can unlock whenever you find them but you might not be able to make the item yet.
Also if attaching rooms from the inside, sometimes you have to rotate the room with the mouse wheel to get the lock symbol.
Your T2 Vegetube will use the same seeds as your T1 Vegetube, but consume more power and release more oxygen.
Once you have equipped the light microchip you still need to turn it on. It is mapped to "L" on my keyboard. Yours may be different. Turning on your light does not cost any power.
You need to reach 50.00 kTI in order to get the Locker Storage blueprint.
Place the flower seeds (Lirma, Shanga, Pestera, etc.) in your Vegetubes to increase your oxygen output. Build a few heaters and a couple of drills. Those three things will increase your TI and get you more blueprints.
Just collect the resources for the objects you need to build, like Solar Panels, Wind Generators, etc. Did I mention that you will need a lot of iron? When it comes time to build your foundation for your base, you will want to have lots and lots of iron.
You are still confusing Vegetubes with Food Growers. Vegetubes grow flowers that increase your oxygen. Food Growers grow your food from the seed packets you found in the various blue chests.
You get your first T1 Food Grower when your atmospheric pressure reaches 12.00 ppt. Just after your T3 Oxygen Tank (5.00 ppt), and just before your T3 Vegetube (30.00 ppt). Building Drills will help increase your atmospheric pressure.
My advice would be to build a foundation first, then build your base on top of your level foundation. You don't need a foundation, but it helps keep the rocks and dirt out of your base if it should come through the walls or the floor. Plus, you can build over the existing valley where you started. Just make sure your foundation is at 26 elevation, or your base may end up underwater and nothing functions underwater.
I found the storage lockers I am only at 4kti and I need to be at 50kti. So I need to terraform alot more.
I think I am on the hunt for iron alot more now as nearly everything requires it. But thank you the information helps alot to work out what I should put down and how much is too much early game.
I know some areas will be blocked off until I get the climate up and am able to melt ice, I assume that means my need for water constantly is over as well then........In the meantime I have to focus on areas that will give me the veg tubes faster..........LOL
Coordinates are X,Y,Z and Y is the elevation. So, middle number on the lower left is your elevation.
Right back to basics then, so my readings currently are
Oxygen 2.15ppt; Heat 995pK; Pressure 908npa = Terraformation 4.10kti (around there)
So is oxygen all the plants in the tubes?
Pressure would be the drills I assume?
Surely heat is not my heater?
What improves terraformation?
What other things at the beginning of the game affect these readings or increase them quickly?? For example if i want to focus on individual areas or what things affect these areas jointly?
I had played this game before and was doing well with a number of these stats but that was a while ago and I had no idea what I was doing then either.......LOL
If you built your base at elevation 24 in the valley were you started, then you will need to rebuild it again. Anything below elevation 26 in that valley will eventually be underwater. Once something appears underwater it stops working, and your base is not waterproof.
If you build a foundation then stand on it and if your elevation reads 26, then you will be standing exactly where the water will eventually rise and your foundation will be only inches above the water.
Until you are able to build rockets, Vegetubes are the only way to increase your oxygen levels. Drills are the only way to increase atmospheric pressure, and heaters are the only way to increase your heat.
Once you are able to build rockets, you can increase all your TI values by a factor of ten.
As far as water is concerned, you will be collecting ice and converting it to water until you reach the TI were you can build a Water Collector. Eventually all that ice you are collecting will melt. However, that does not happen until mid-game and you will already have the Water Collector by then.
Without ice, however, you will not be able to build any more T1 or T2 Vegetubes. You don't really need them by mid- to late- game, but if you want to build more for aesthetic purposes, you will need ice.
I always fill a Storage Locker full of ice about the same time I get the Water Collector and hold on to it. Just in case I want to use it later.
