1 locker per resource has worked well for me. Plus a few drone terminals act as extra storage that replenish themselves as you use items.
3 Iridium rod = 27 iridium
3 super alloy = 24 super alloy
1 Locker Storage = 35 slots
If you have only one locker storage of iridium and one of super alloy, you are out of resources after just building one Heater T5.
Let’s say you got one Ore extractor T3 in those two mines, they will bring 15 minerals each.
35 (full locker storage) – 27 + 15 = 23 iridium (not enough to craft the 3 iridium rods needed)
35 (full locker storage) – 24 + 15 = 26 super allow (you’re out of that resource until your extractor fills twice).
So with the one locker storage strategy, you can’t build two Heather T5.
Your solution might be to build more Ore Extractor T3, but one of those require one iridium rod and one super alloy rod that you don’t have because your only locker storage are both empty now.
You still can't build 2 Heather T3 in a row with just one locker storage for each resource.
You will have to wait for both your storage and extractor to fill up again and that's a lot of time.
And you run out of resources after just crafting one Heather - you don't have any iridium or super alloy to craft anything else in the game obviously.
This is why you manufacture these things away from main storage facility.
I also use 1 locker per resource that I pull from to build. The iridium and super alloy in those storages is never touched for making rods. Rods are made away from this area and shipped in like the raw ores. I was doing it this way before drones, it is now super easy to do with drones.
You are still limited to building one Heather T3 and then wait a lot of time until 20 something rods are generated again.
On top of that you ran out of that specific resource for crafting anything else that requires it.
I just filled 10 Locker storage with iridium rods generated from 5 Ore extractors T3.
That took 8 hours. 8 hours to generate one of the 3 components required to craft 8 Heathers T3.
If I had used only one locker storage, it would have taken 80 hours.
Not to mention you are blocking 5 Ore Extractors to that specific task and building more extractors is not an option as it requires the resources you are currently pumping out to craft your rods for your Heathers.
The Storage manager is the equivalent of CTRL-clicking once your items in the inventory in order to move them all to a Locker storage, instead of clicking 35 times each individually.
When supplies of ore ran out, I did other things while the drones replenished them.
Now I have lockers full of rods, and lockers full of associated ores
Also, it's better to build rockets.
I dismantled all my heaters as I didn't need them anymore...in fact, the only machines I now have are ones I need for production materials.
A different way to play the game.
Machines can be replaced with rockets. I dismantled all my machines once I had 6 rockets up...now I have 10 of each and my numbers are soaring
How do you use rockets to gather and store resources?
Don't you have AutoCrafters?
You set up an autocrafter together with the Ore Extractors in the Iridium Cave, and have it make Rods. Then you have the Drones to bring those to a single locker for storage.
Do the same with SA, except there you add a blue Chest that the drones refill with Aluminium.
And Uranium...
The issue being that you can only craft one Heather T3 with only one locker storage while you can craft 30 of them with 30 locker storage.
There is no issue about clicking 35 times to transfer resources from inventory to storage either, except that it's time consuming, that is why the Dev implemented the CTRL-click function to do that in one click instead.
The point of the Storage manager is to get rid of tedious tasks and focus on creating instead.
