Having to manual harvest algae was ridiculous. You spent half your game time focussed on it at end game.
Let’s not regress
As I said, it wasn't an unwelcome change. I can see "some" merit behind it, but only in the sense of saving frames by building junk strategically around the map. But truthfully, I feel indifferent to the change. I didn't want or need algae and veggies in bins. I was perfectly capable of just building automation stations for crafting the actually useful things then shipping those off to storage instead.
Only because of the constant feedback saying to change it. When the drones were added, they had their community manager telling us it was intended to be done with autocrafters, not drones. They changed their mind because of constant feedback saying to change it. Once again, I feel indifferent to the change. It's not some end all, be all, game changing feature for me. It's just a thing that exists now.
I also never said it was "wrong". I just said it wasn't necessary. You could automate algae and crops without drones shipping them around.
That’s messy, ugly, leads to segregated automatic systems and would have just been plain boring.
Those who think it should be done with crafters still can. Just don’t set any contained to demand algae
Segregated? Not exactly. You can very easily build every bit of autocrafting all in one spot if you so choose even before drones could ship them around. And if you mean having a ton of random build cubes for things around the plateau lake, that is also wrong. The only thing that needs to be indoors last I checked was silk production. Can build autocrafters, gas extractors, farms, algae growers, storage, etc all outside to your hearts content.
I have a tendency to start new saves every major update to experience the changes in progression rather than just seeing the new things. My fish update save did exactly that. Built a rather small facility in the center of the lake that did every bit of autocrafting and only needed one build cube for the silk. It was all compact and centralized and functioned beautifully. And as far as aesthetics go, I did make it look pleasing rather than just slapping a ton of foundations all over the place and calling it good.
Ok, and I was thinking maybe they add a submarine drone at some point to harvest them because there was nothing to select at the algae generator... Thanks for the reply
