What is he for? It can neither be tasted nor displayed on the table as a decoration (it can only be placed in a showcase, like golden figurines) ..but the figurines can be placed on the working surface of the table..

You can drop the cake on the table. Stand next to the table and drop the cake from your inventory. You may have to pick it up and drop it a few times to get it to land on the table, but it is possible

I swear everytime i see that cake i get mad that my Character can not eat it. It is like a really mean joke on that dessert remote Planet to tease me. (Joke.) I would love to be able to eat it though it looks so tasty.)

I wish the devs had made it placeable like the golden statues. But dropping does work. Maybe put in a display case.

It was an anniversary one off a while back. Just like the hidden anniversary bunker. The bunker was removed but the cake remains due to 'popular' demand.

Indeed, good call. It was actually a bit of a race to find the bunker to celebrate the anniversary of the release - once in the bunker, why not memorialize it in the party room with a cake?. Had that screen shot up for another year before taking it down.
