How kid friendly is this game?
How kid friendly would you all say this game is? Any reasons why/why not?

Thanks!

Pretty kid friendly. On casual there is no punishment for death. The hardest part is crafting. the kids would need to be able to understand that you need certain resources in order to make something and you need to unlock certain things by getting your Ti up or using microchips to unlock certain items. I don't have kids but I'd assume even a 5 year could learn to play it once they are shown how to do it. Oh there is also no violence and never will be. There is a demo and a prologue you can try for free. Prologue is longer.

Your question is extremely general, given the wide possibilites of 'kid friendly', so it would help if you listed your concerns more precisely.

This game features you and no other sapient beings. There are no other people. Right now, there are no animals higher than fish, though that will change before release. However, the developers have previously stated that there will be no combat in the game: no monsters, or weapons. Some of the animals in the game can be seen in circumstances where they are obviously dead. But in all cases their bodies are intact, so they may have just died of old age.

There's no gore in the game. You can't get poisoned, or slashed to death by plant life, or anything like that. So there are no occasions where you can see blood.

It's a survival game, which means that there's a possibility that you may die, either by failing survival requirements (running out of necessities) or by falling from such a height that you die from impact. However, the game has four modes for play, and only one (permadeath) lets you actually die. In the other three modes, if you lose all health you wake up in a safe place, possibly with some disadvantage to have fainted. Each time you start a new game, you choose which of these modes you play in.

It is possible in the game, if you follow some non-obvious hints and clues, to find one dead body. The person concerned died (ultimately) of an accident. No blood or gore is visible.

If you have a specific concern I haven't covered, please post it.

There's no monsters or adult themes or death (per se) or blood or gore. In those regards, yes, it's perfectly fine for kids.

Is it something a kiddo would be able to understand well enough to play on their own or with minimal assistance? Depends on the kid. Some grasp complexity above their age, some don't. In that regard, you'll know your kid better than we. It's a pretty simple game overall, tho. The gameplay loop is pretty clear within the first hour, well within the refund window.

If you do get it for your kiddo, I hope he/she enjoys it! :steamhappy:

Are you KIDDING me?

I wouldn't have a problem with mine playing it, but you just have to make sure they have the ability. It's not something I would let a kid who isn't already experienced in games to play. No real tutorial to hand hold them.

My neighbors 11 year old plays with me, and his 6 year old brother tries to help as well. Nothing in the game that wouldnt be kid friendly. Heck even when you die for what ever reason, nothing is showing, you just black out, and wake up back in a habitat.

By the way, there is always the prologue, that is free, you can try out to see for yourself. But really there is nothing that would not be kid friendly. you gather resources, you build, gather more, build some more, watch as the planet goes from a red uninhabitable landscape, to one that is green, and growing. And explore wrecks, (which do not even have any bodies at all, even the one that the person left messages saying they would die soon.)

> Oh there is also no violence and never will be.

I think this game sounds perfect.

Trying out the prologue now, thanks all!

EDIT: Where can I get the Prologue? I just see the demo, not the Prologue (longer trial). Could you let me know how to do this?

Thanks!

Kid friendly:
- no enemies, therefore no fighting
- nice landscape that changes over time
- you can build stuff
- game is quite forgiving, death by falling for example is almost impossible.

Not so kid friendly:
- Oxygen goes down. Fast.
- hunger
- thirst
- the construction line gets more and more complex.
- the longer you play, the more demanding the new constructs are.

Not quite the ideal game when the child can't read and is unable to understand the interrelations of the constructs.

The Prologe is the Demo. You got the whole game but with a limit in progress.

Other than the one half-a-corpse of a dead guy named Xiaodan (which is more of half-a-spacesuit) in a hidden cave, and some grave markers, there's not much. On most game settings you don't even "die", really, just respawn.

It's not really a kid's game, but a kind could grasp most of the concepts in it. Even the automation isn't terribly difficult.

I am pretty strict on what my children play and I am more than happy for them all to play this (my youngest is 9). I think the younger they are it becomes more about ability and patience (therefore enjoyment of the game) rather than anything that isn't child-friendly.
If it helps the following was posted by the developers for what there plans are for the future:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1284190/discussions/0/3058490685020091890/

"Features I'd like to add, but only be able to do if the game is well received on release. No guarantee
Vehicules
Small and peacefull wildlife (fauna)
New planets to terraform with different variables / conditions
Port on consoles (Xbox, Playstation, Switch)

Features that won't be in the game
Big monsters and aliens, guns, fighting and violence
Interplanetary roaming, spaceship piloting
Giant robots
Loot boxes, pay to win, ads"

Where have you found a dead animal? That's something I've never seen. The only animals in this game currently are fish, and I've never seen a dead one of those. Except maybe the ones i trophy mounted.

They are being subtle and trying not to reveal a spoiler. I know what they mean. There is something out there if you think about it. If you don't know, keep exploring.
