Game crash freezes every single time I play, randomly.
I've done everything on this list:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/the-planet-crafter-stuttering-lags/

Nothing is working. Sometimes it crashes when the game starts up, sometimes in game load/creation, sometimes in 30 seconds of play, sometimes in 10 minutes. But... it always, inevitably crashes.

My patience is wearing thin. I love this game, and cannot play, no matter what I do. It used to run just fine, even on Linux. I've switched to the beta, verified the files, reinstalled over and over, rebooted, updated all my drivers, screwed with the game settings, my graphics settings, memory... My computer is more than capable of playing this.

I have no idea why this would be happening. Planet Crafter is a routine game which uses Unity. It doesn't do anything unusual and if your computer plays other Unity games it should be able to run Planet Crafter.

Do you perhaps have streaming or screen-recording software loaded ? Or anything else that might interfere with the game ?

If you switch back to the main game instead of the beta, does that start it working again ?

Whenever I have exhausted everything I know software, I tend to start looking at hardware. Perhaps you are having overheat issues in one of your components.

You could start by installing HWMonitor:
https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Its free and could help rule out a hardware issue. In particular, look for overheating of the GPU or SSD.

Or you could try posting your issue in the hardware and operating systems forum here on steam, if you don't get any helpful responses from this forum.

Only time Planet Crafter crashes for me is if I use the windows key to minimize into windows for somthing.

I'm not running any software out of the ordinary, and don't stream. As for HWMonitor, it looks like everything is fine. Nothing is over the max, though a few things were at it.

I may have fixed this issue by running Driver Booster's game mode. I didn't play long, but got about 3x as far as my best run in the last few days.

It crashes frequently for me now too. Not sure it was the last patch but it absolutely hammers my CPU and graphics cards. It's got laggy too - lots of plants, bees and butterflies I guess. Hopefully some optimisation coming soon. Great game though.

My fix... wasn't a fix, sadly. It seemed to work for a while, now... same old same old. I'm freezing at around 5-30 seconds.

You seem techie enough to understand log files. Take a look inside

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\LocalLow\MijuGames\Planet Crafter

is there something that looks like a log file ? Does it tell you anything ?

Seems like most unity games crash on my laptop, I don't know why, it just seems to hate the unity engine, what I did to fix planet crafter was disable geforce overlay, but even then it still crashes, just not as much:KSmiley:

Yeah... I don't understand the log file. lol

I tried looking a bunch of it up, but mainly I just find stuff like it's a Unity problem, or an Nvidia problem, with a bunch of solutions that don't work, or only relate to other games. If I'm reading it correctly, there's actually multiple issues, so I'm not even certain which is the main problem. And, as nothing seems to come between saving the game and it crashing, any one could be the problem, and it's just not listing the one that's killing it.

Full disclosure: I'm not techie (like that word, lol) either.

In another forum here, the one of the game "PLANET S", there is a troubleshooting guide/thread that also talks about problems with Nvidia. I don't know if that can be of any help, but maybe check it out :)

Thanks. It doesn't seem to help, unfortunately. It's mainly a startup issue in that game. There's tons of posts about it. I searched for a few key strings like the one in the log, without a hit.

Sorry Narwall, I didn't see you. I do have the Nvidia control panel, but not GForce, so there's no overlay to disable so far as I'm aware.

I know you mentioned 'creation' in your first post, but does this happen if you start a new game, or only when you load an existing save ?

The text in your log file doesn't show anything obvious. The problem you're having is not common. It's not something I've seen reported elsewhere. I'm suspecting interference from the additional software which comes with your graphics card. But I don't see why it's causing a problem with Planet Crafter and not other games using the same game engine.

It happens when I play, whether it be a brand new game, or loading a saved one. I've made several new, and kept trying to load them later, but with the same result.

As for my problem being uncommon... welcome to my world. I'm not especially bright, but I can use google just fine. I never seem to have issues other people have solved already... rofl

And yes, I play other Unity games with no issue. I'm sure there's been a crash or two over the last few months since I installed this OS, but no repeated problems, no even pre-alpha builds. What's really bugging me is it worked just fine on the same computer running Ubuntu.

What new OS? Windows 10/11? If so, try turning off Windows Game Mode.
Settings -> Gaming -> Game Mode
Its a long shot, but better to rule it out.

If another Linux OS, perhaps try going back to Ubuntu? I dabbled with Linux distros a few months ago and discovered that some are better than others.
