Are you talking about when you start a game for the first time? You're getting kicked back out to the main menu after you click on "Create", right?

Unfortunately, this game doesn't throw you straight into gameplay when you start a new save, it just creates and initializes the save file for you. You still have to go back and manually start the map.

From the main menu (in game, not Steam), you need to click on "Play" again. You should see your newly created save in the list. Click the "Load" button under the name of the save; your map will load up and gameplay will begin.
