Where do you build your first base?
IMO I think starter valley shouldn't flood like it does and make you have to move bases like 99% of people have to do when they start the game. .

Where do you build your base when you start a new game?

When I played the game, I built my first base in starter valley, like everyone else. Fortunately I didn't build much.

The game does things like this to you more than once. In a game where there's no combat, no evil flora and fauna, and only a few ways to die, there has to be other things which provide drama and keep you interested. You've experienced one of them. Have fun with the rest.

Welcome back T. How did you manage to get domes to "float"?
It's really good. Wish I could build that well (95% of times I died were while attempting to build complex interconnected work spaces)

Directly north of capsule until flat area at height of 26/27

They are attached to the central tower, so not really floating. Basically it's the 2nd floor, as I tend to prefer to build vertically to avoid cluttering the whole place with buildings. This way I can still enjoy (most of) the natural flair.

Edit: And I was never gone, just silent. ;) Thanks, though!

Right next to the starting lake between iridium and aluminium locations About the same distance to everything from here since it's pretty central.

It doesn't start flooding until about 5MTi on the Terraforming scale, so it's quite safe to put down a small base at the bottom of the lake bed (I place it on top of one of the little hillocks there to make it easier to see, and give me more time before I have to move it or lose it.

On my most recent start, I had 3 1room bases there(the last two were added after I got up on the ridge and began building there) It was very useful for when I scoured the lakefloor for materials.

I also start by first expanding my kit(O2 tanks are a must, backpack is also useful), then put down a couple of windmills and Drills to get the Terraforming process going.

I built right next to the drop pod, starting valley. When i noticed puddles I instantly moved up to that nearby crashed ship on the cliff and built on that top most ledge.

North of starting location, a lot of "flat area" and it is more or less center of a map. Probably in next playthrough I will use this area to make huge "tropical" forest.
I went for the highest fairly flat bit in the staring valley (central valley).

Made it to "Oxygen" and not flooded so I guess I'm safe here.

Yeah, that's safe. Most build their first permanent base there. It's also good for when you get Algae generators and the Lake Water Collector.
I built a road midway into the lake using foundation modules, then I placed the Algae collectors along both sides of it, and let their working area overlap.
With a 370tank and the air breather(at 3.4/s right now... Playing HardCore) I can clear out 10 T2 Algae generators before running out of air.

Yeah, I think its freaky how much flooding there is. I built up against the falling sands cave entrance and started to panic when even one side of that even flooded. Im pretty certain tho early game when placing pods doesnt it tell you if its a flood risk spot? Im building up to the top of the cliff and building down the left part once I get rid of those ugly drills. Ive also shifted most the ugly machines into the cave to they are out-of-sight. Its only a skip and hop down to the lake for algae and water and the flat part thats between my base and the aluminium fields I will be using for a drilling base where now I have T3 extractors I dont think you even need to be where at the ore cave locations, you can drill anywhere. So Im going to use that flat area as a mining base where that too will be a simple hop-skip-and-jump to get all my goodies. The middle part where you see the single pods ontop of each other was my stairwell but I now have that as my elevator using a portal on each floor so no more climbing the stairs lol. I was visualising the other night about having a floating base so interesting to see Ts. I believe you can put down a pod, put another on top and if you remove the bottom one, the top one will still be there? Ive doen it while building my skyrise when Ive put pods in the wrong place, where linking hasnt worked properly so I go outside to see where it was placed and its floating! So you just need to do it that way and have a portal up to it. I am going to be doing a floating base. Once Ive reached the top of the cliff then Im already pretty high up and will build one up from there.

I usually dont start in the starter area, I usually land in the grand rift area, and build a small base there till after the lakes fill up. Then I build my big base floating over the lake.

I built my base on the rock shelf at the east edge of the maze near the center of the map
