You can always disassemble them later.
Certainly early access...
As far as cobalt, and other basic minerals, just place a minining collector or two next to base, they will randomly get every common mineral, so you can have unlimited cobalt for oxygen
Ah, I see Imperium posted the same advice in different words.
Instead of using up 6 slots on 2 Titanium, 1 Silicon and 3 iron, I like to build little "rest stops" in strategic locations on the map, and I'll usually put them in places that make it easier to find my way around (like, putting one in front of a cave to make it easier to find the entrance from a distance). I also like to put these outside of wrecks with lockers inside of them so I can "pool" all of the loot and put it in the lockers which makes carrying all that stuff back to my base much easier.
I also like to place windmills as path markers, they only cost 1 iron and it even generates a tiny speck of electricity too, but the thing is... they are tall and visible from a distance which is the main reason why I use them.
You will unlock things that make it faster.
Sure, that Vegetube t1 is going at a snail's pace, but a t2 will go faster.
And then, you'll eventually get a flower spreader, put your best seed in that. then the T2 flower spreader.
Oh, and the Biodome T2.
And then the algae spreaders (you will want these for the algae they produce, too!)
And so on and so forth.
But don't focus solely on o2; you need Pressure and Heat, too! You need to just aim for the next goals and keep increasing all of those at a steady pace and you will unlock things.
But don't forget about exploring! There are very "powerful" seeds hidden away in the world, you will know one when you see it, as it is ridiculously good compared to everything else for awhile (you eventually find ones almost as good), so it's good to look around.
Hint: There's a cave near the starting area if you chose the standard start. In the back of this cave, you might find a special container with one in it.
I've been exploring, in fact just used the mobile home method and visited what I see is called the Stargate™
With the state of the game balance right now, you have to be just flat out not paying attention in order to actually suffocate or dehydrate. Starving is the real danger early on until you unlock a means of food production. If you're diligent about setting up survival shelters and progressing a bit through the tech tree you shouldn't often need to use oxygen tanks, and thus not use up cobalt, except very early game before you've unlocked the room and door techs, or when exploring too far away from the nearest shelter. There are later techs that mine unlimited amounts of given resources, but you can make the finite supplies of common resources on the surface last a very long time and it's a big map so there's plenty too... readily accessible if again you've been diligent about building survival shelters. Later game pre-breathable atmo I've got full upgrades on my oxygen tank and backpack, so I'll still carry resources for at least 1 shelter, maybe 2 if I'm trailblazing, plus 3 each of the basic survival supplies because I can and at that point I'm sightseeing between tech unlocks.
Playing those is why I bought this game...more of the same...well EXTREMELY similar.
100% the map is this game biggest weakness right now, its full of clipable terrain, ugly cliffs and overall... just feels like a placeholder map. The jetpack is also very bugged, it can get you anywhere on the map right now, including sections closed off by Ice meant for late game, doesnt matter if you just fly right over the cliffs.
I love the idea of this game, and it is only version 0.6 something, Potential for Expansions and DLCS are limitless...
