Is my base going to become a useless submarine?
I started my first play through and thought it would be a good idea to make it near the spawn point. Didn't think anything of it and have continued to build my base up significantly. I saw someone's old post about lakes forming and as I look around my base, I'm surrounded by higher ground. Do lakes actually start to form in "Crater" areas that my base is currently in? If this is the case, I'm guessing higher ground would be a significantly better place for starting a new base? This is my first play through and have wanted to do it blind but I don't want to turn how much fun I'm having into extreme frustration :steamfacepalm:

You've passed your initiation, welcome to the club. I'd come over to help you pack and move, but I'm kind of stranded on this planet that I have to ter...

Oh, I see you already know the story. :steamhappy:

Yes, you should relocate. Keep in mind you get all resources back when you deconstruct things, so it shouldn't be that hard.

There's like, a triangular arch up the hill that marks the start of safe ground. (IE that entire area between the two wrecks, the starting crator and the funny grey area)

I was personally quite glad for the move. Later in the game you find youself going to certain locations a lot, and the starting crator is the absolute furthest away from everything of use.

Might be an idea to not set up anywhere big and perminant till you have the lakes filled, 'cus one thing you will want on your backyard is a large body of water for... reasons that involve not having to constantly walk to water.

There are also a lot of nicer views to be had too :3

At least you found out now before your base was already underwater. Unfortunately the Sentinel Corp won't send a moving company to help you out, so you're on your own (like with everything else on the planet).

Awh, that's a downer, but at least I caught on before I became a drowner :cleanseal: Thank you all for your great advice and I'm still open to anyone else providing further knowledge on this subject.

I found that the Sentinel Corp has a system similar to the American "U-Haul" (which are large vehicles that are able to be rented and used to move large quantities of pretty much anything and helps people move to a new house or to college, etc.) Though the Sentinel Corp provides a free service called "Me-Haul" meaning I have to be the one to haul all of my crap back and forth myself :steamsalty: :lunar2019deadpanpig:

This makes me hope that one day they'll add some sort of vehicle, maybe powered by water and oxygen(?) that can transport minimal amounts of materials but is a bit faster than walking and can be upgraded with the blue chips or milestone :steamhappy:

There is faster travel later in the game but I don't want to spoil it for you :)

As for the base under water it also happened to me...fortunately there is a large flat area not too far from the starting point so relocating was not too painful...

This has got to be the most iconic and unique moment in this game so far, something you have never experienced in any other game before. I remember when it happened to me too and it was a mix of "wait that's so cool!" and "oh ♥♥♥♥ my base is going to flood isn't it?"

Its a sales gimmick. Now you can buy a house with a lake view... From INSIDE THE LAKE!

Two words: vertical building. I for one am quite excited to have my very own underwater aquarium once the Fish stage gets implemented.

Lmao it's sad & funny that the new players have to experience that & you wanna help but can't.
I'm sorry littlemisslimos it actually get worse til you're completely out of water stage. I look at my underwater base all the time.

I remember standing by my first base when it started raining. Everything was slick with water. I looked around with a sudden sinking feeling realising that I was standing at the lowest point. I over-reacted and moved everything up by the cave next to the nearest wreck. That base is still there, but largely abandoned, after building a better base on the plain next to the lake. It was a great revelation, the other being starving to death waiting for my first food grower to produce an egg plant.

Um... Yes.
I just built a new set of rooms on top and put in a ladder. And then do it again, later. ...twice !
8-)

First base right next to the pod... got the message from Riley and realized I had made a mistake. Moved everything up a bit to the NE to the next place that seemed flat enough. Lake stopped about a meter or so below my front door. Flawless luck :D
