There is absolutely a good reason why there are so many wrecks on the planet. It is explained in lore you can find while playing. Enjoy it.
Chests are a workaround because the game engine can't render huge numbers of different things lying around on the planet's surface. Rather than think of yourself finding blue chests, imagine yourself finding the contents of those chests, scattered in the area of the chest. They fell from holes in the spaceships as they were falling out of the sky, before they hit the ground.
Rockets. Right now, the game runs out at a certain stage, just before fish. Nothing happens if you do get into Fish Stage. So it is set at a ridiculously high Terraforming Index to prevent people trying to get there. Everyone knows the game isn't finished yet, and they should take the hint. But some people don't take the hint and try to get to the very high lower limit for Fish Stage anyway. And the obvious way to get there is to launch many rockets. So don't bother. When you get to that point play something else or go outdoors and get some fresh air.
Yes the reason is told in the lore, though it isn't very logical or satisfying imo.
I agree about the rockets, and don't plan on launching more than 10 of each type.
If you have T2 drills, then not really, but that's just a side effect of one of the rockets. The reason you launch the rockets is for the +1000% multiplier
Indeed. there are 5 of each type of production rocket. Asteroid Attraction Rocket = Uranium and gives a 1000% bonus to Heat production , Magnetic Field Protection Rocket = Iridium and gives a 1000% bonus to Pressure production, Plants Rocket = Moss spread and gives 1000% bonus to Biomass production, Seed Spreader Rocket = more flora and 1000% bonus to Oxygen production, and Insect Spreader Rocket = more Insect product and gives 1000% bonus to Insect Biomass production.
These bonuses are additve for each rocket.. Ie the first Uranium rocket gives a x10 multiplier (1000%) on the current heat production number, the second uranium rocket gives another x10 to the new number, the third, another x10.... and so on for each of the rocket types. In other words, x10 + x10 + x10... not 1000% x 1000% x 1000%, etc
There is point of diminishing returns tho... the math has been done and the numbers have been verified to be true, although there will be others who will try to argue that it doesn't matter and just keep launching them forever... You can try to find the post that explains it but it might take a while to find it :) it was done quite a long time ago
Personally.... I usually stop sending em up at about 10 or 12 of each.
Another question ...Ive just got the T4 Heater that Ive made x3 and removed the x6 T3 I had. I see in the stats it produces way more pressure than the T3 Drills. Should I removed the drills and put up more T4 Heaters...I wont matter that I have no drills because Im placing what will give me the higher stats for pressure? ... Update, I just unlocked the T4 Drill! Time to remove all those T3s and put this beast down!
I deleted all those saves and started a brand new HC game when the latest update went live ( I don't play the Dev Branch, btw).
In my new game, I purposefully did NOT seek out any chest, blue or gold that was NOT inside a wrecked ship... I left all the ones in the open ground where they were, unopened, just to see if it made a difference.
I have to say, it made no difference. I am currently still alive in my game, have reached 2TTi, am 0.3% into fishes stage, unlocked everything, built everything in all the build menus, have 2 lockers each full of every resource you can mine, pickup or craft. All without needing to loot any of those chests.
Since I have finished all the current content in this game, my goal for the next save will be to see if I can survive in a HC game with looting ANY chest, including the chests inside wrecks.
The only exception to this will be the tiny chests that have the data chips inside them.
I think this will be a good test to see whether or not these loot chests really make a difference.
<edited for ... one or two....small spelling errors... errmm>
My current favourite handicap is that I'm not allowed to pick out the embedded ingots in any of the caves, just the ones loose on the ground. So now at late-game stage, my Iridium cave is still spotted with lots of red/orange glowy bits, my uranium cave is still spotted with lots of green glowy bits, etc.. The caves still look like the things they contain. I had to make an exception for Osmium (the blue ingots) because there aren't any ingots loose on the ground, and you need two (?) Osmium pieces to make the drills that give you more Osmium pieces.
Most rockets trigger a drop of something. You can read in the description of the rocket (look on the screen in the launch pad) what bonus every rocket gives. Just look on the screen. there's no limit to the number of drops: every rocket should bring one. But there is a limit to the number you can launch of some kinds of rocket.
The Asteroids rocket is special because in early/mid game you are short of uranium and cannot mine it and you need uranium to make a rocket motor ! So always keep one spare rocket motor handy in case you need more uranium, because you can launch it to bring uranium asteroids to the planet.
