In terms of views, though, the NW area is quite stunning once the lakes fill. Location is okay once transporters are available.
The far north canyon area could have some interesting builds with nice views. Again, late game with transporters to access resources.
Now, I've put a new base at the north east of the bigger crashed spaceship. This way, even if the devs let water fill the place entirely, I will still be on dry soil. I've put many trees around, at the same height. I'm waiting for the sea level to rise, it will be a beautiful place.
Plus, I don't need to travel too much anymore, I've placed enough teleporters to the various mines we have.
Any other location is less convenient until you can teleport, which is very late.
There is little choice if you want to be optimal, and that is unfortunate. Maybe the new planets will give us more incentives to build in different places :)
In this case where I started just up the hill by the big crash which was closer to the bug ship for searching and fortunate because the valley eventually filled with water.
So I run few rockets every day, add few T5 ... waiting for next upgrade.
There's no crashed spaceships there, but there's 2 underground bases and I think 4 chests out in the open on the bottom.
I don't know about that. My base is on the south edge of the dune desert, near the sulphur fields entrance. It's still pretty central to everything, but it's substantially closer to the urianium and superalloy caves, *closer* to iridium and sulphur than starting valley is, and not significantly further from aluminum. The only thing I think is further away is zeolite, and not much further.
