The Planet Crafter
What's your favorite base area?
My favorite base area has to be the starter valley. It's flat, has many starter resources. and can make some cool bases there. 2nd has to be waterfall area. pretty much the same as starter valley. And the scenery is nice. What's your favorite base area?

I agree, but I like the starting valley because of the water it fills up with :)
I'm enjoying my base built literally on top of the main lake like it's floating, I especially like the fact that I can open a door and take a drink - no more water bottles! It's also close to iridium, sulphur, zeolite and osmium - also not too far from Aluminium.

In terms of views, though, the NW area is quite stunning once the lakes fill. Location is okay once transporters are available.

The far north canyon area could have some interesting builds with nice views. Again, late game with transporters to access resources.
I have built all over the map and like the others have said, i have found the best place to build is right on the edge of the main lake where the water line ends. It has great views, it's close to the iridium mine for early access to iridium. It's also close to two wrecked space craft and that area with the high rock pillars that contain the random super alloy. Then there's the aluminium fields close by.
I first put my base between the aluminium field and the starter valley.
Now, I've put a new base at the north east of the bigger crashed spaceship. This way, even if the devs let water fill the place entirely, I will still be on dry soil. I've put many trees around, at the same height. I'm waiting for the sea level to rise, it will be a beautiful place.
Plus, I don't need to travel too much anymore, I've placed enough teleporters to the various mines we have.

Default starting area is really nice, especially after it got wet. And it short way to the rare ores, osmium, iridium, sulphur, Super Alloy after you find the really neat shortcut right by "the base (need some heat)". (i haven't been to the uranium places yet, but i know at least one is relatively close and i got shelters near them.).
My favorite is also near the starting area.Like it because it is central location and near a lot of different ores. Also most of the time build the main base on top of the huge lake.
Let's be honest, the map has been created with a base in the starter valley in mind.
Any other location is less convenient until you can teleport, which is very late.
There is little choice if you want to be optimal, and that is unfortunate. Maybe the new planets will give us more incentives to build in different places :)
this may be a dull answer but i like the standard starter area mainly because it's centrally located
Ah yes...Most people say their first was their favorite!

In this case where I started just up the hill by the big crash which was closer to the bug ship for searching and fortunate because the valley eventually filled with water.
My first base was near the lake but when I got teleport I build 'home' on top of arch in warp gate wrecks (great views ;) with some as I called NASA on the ground. It has square of several ore extractors to produce everything to build T5 drills/heaters, nuclear fusion reactors and rocket engines. First base got auto crafters around anything water based (fertilisers etc).
So I run few rockets every day, add few T5 ... waiting for next upgrade.
My fave is the Meteorite Crater. It's a bit of a bugger to start, but you have 2 caves near the lander, there's Iridium at the bottom of the crater, and when the dust settles you get a great view.
There's no crashed spaceships there, but there's 2 underground bases and I think 4 chests out in the open on the bottom.

I don't know about that. My base is on the south edge of the dune desert, near the sulphur fields entrance. It's still pretty central to everything, but it's substantially closer to the urianium and superalloy caves, *closer* to iridium and sulphur than starting valley is, and not significantly further from aluminum. The only thing I think is further away is zeolite, and not much further.
I love the water fall area the moment I'm currently building my forever home there. Then I'll build a couple out post to visit through the map.
