Mining for iron

I'm in late-game stage and can do pretty-much anything I want. I want to build something that will take a lot of iron but I can't figure out the fastest way to get it.

I can build extractor T1 and extractor T2 on ground that shows it will give iron. For some reason T1 seems to give more iron than T2. But neither of them give much more iron than an extractor T1 built in the aluminium fields, which says it is mainly looking for aluminium. Is that what everyone is getting ?

T2 Extractor is primarily for two things:
larger capacity and rare/special Ores.
It doesn't dig any faster (as far as I know)

When you place an Extractor (T1 or T2) it indicates an Ore based on its location.
The indicated Ore is the dominant ore the extractor will give you,
but theres no guaranty of how much other stuff you will get.

A T2 extractor has a bigger storage so it can keep collecting longer and store more.
If you leave it longer, you end up with more stuff, and hopefully more of the dominant Ore.

If you want primarily Iron, place the extractor where it shows Iron.
That will give you the most.

Hi, Im getting 2-4 iron with a T1 and about 2-3 iron with a T2 in iron only areas, full boxes. is that about right?

but the "rare ores" (ally, os, uranium, irid, sulfur, alloy) etc always seem to produce 75% of the box when full!?
seems iron is more rare to me as its needed for more things lol

You can't "specialize" in iron...the iron icon is merely a placeholder to show you'll get a random mix of the five basic ores (iron, cobalt, silicon, titanium, magnesium).

Exactly. In fact, I have got more iron from a T1 trying to extract aluminium than from a T2 trying showing iron on the display. This is part of the question I was asking.

RNG is R. Unless the devs share their tables, or someone does an exhaustive statistical analysis, all we have is anecdotal evidence which is notoriously unreliable when it comes to such numbers. So...so far as I know, there's no way to definitively answer the question of numbers.

I was building a huge staircase/walkway. And in an earlier playthrough I built an evil genius headquarters along the top of the labyrinth. A lot of iron foundation blocks and small living compartments.

I have placed x5 T1 Ore Extractors in the nearest Osmium cave and combined with a round trip collecting from the Ally, iridium, SA and Sulfur mines i can get a full inventory of iron. i havent timed how often you can do that as im not sure on how fast T1's fill up?

ive now added an extra T2 rig to each site and x2 T1 rigs at the special alloy cave and im swimming in iron now, ready for the next update :)

Once you have extractor capability, all base resources should be robust. Even the "specials" give you lots of the base resources. Throw in teleporters and you should be flush with base resources to your heart's desire.
