Comprehensive list of finite resources? (Early access - 0.4.014)
Hey all,
I'm just curious about what resources I should be conscious about using. It's extremely satisfying to get the late game techs unlocked, especially the Ore extractor T2 and make a bunch of stuff that I needed to constantly count in my inventory and use consciously become an unlimited resource. Placing an Ore extractor T2 in the uranium mine is like a new chapter of the game. No more scavenging wrecks and counting uranium on my base not to accidentally run out of it.
I want to keep track of what still isn't infinite and will run out eventually from my game world in the current version.
I know all seeds are finite, which is a concern especially for Seed Lirma since the Biomass rocket and Biolab T1 uses them. The rest of the seeds are just for creating trees in the late game, right?
What else isn't infinite besides the seeds currently?

Oh also as feedback for the devs:
I would be super happy if eventually everything in the game would become renewable. It may be extremely tedious to get a constant supply of something and be part of the super late game, but I really wish I could just think "No matter how I use this, I will be eventually able to get more of it if I really need it".

Seeds are in the foil packets, plants are in glass jars. Lirma is a plant. Plants are used for O2 production and are used up making tree seeds and in rockets.
Seeds are for growing food. nothing else. And they are not destroyed.

Seeds - (although you only need 3 or 4 of each)
I have a full locker each of eggplant and squash a small locker of beans and a few extra mushrooms and 10 food growers supplying all my needs.
Plants (There are 12 golden flowers and a handful of the two you can pick growing wild) all others are laying about in wrecks or in chests randomly. I have three large lockers full of plants.
Fabric - maybe 30 in total in the game.
microchips - more than you need but finite nonetheless.

Everything else you can craft or mine an infinite amount of.

You're going to need mushrooms later, if you don't find at least four I'd say start harvesting and stockpiling the mushrooms before you need them to avoid having to wait.
Methane is also needed in larger quantities than you might expect, I started with just the one gas extractor but now I have 8-10 for making Pulsar Quartz (though I have been making more than I really need.) Not that methane is finite but anyway.

Fabric is finite at the moment... but wait... the devs have yet to Implement the insects.... and as we all know some insects can produce silk... and with enough silk we can make fabric... so I foresee that eventually we will be able to harvest the silk and make fabric...

The firm rule is: everything starts out finite, most things later become easy, and since there's a lot of game left to implement the list of what's finite is subject to change. Early on, you use what you can get your mitts on, and later on you start stockpiling a little for future uses.

So to summarize what everyone is saying...
Fabric
Seed Packets
Plants in Jars

Longer bit below

That is all for the resources you CANNOT gather more than is generated on the map as of now.
Fabric is only needed in one Mod slot item, the rest are more vanity items from what iv unlocked.
Seed Packets, you only need 1 of each minimum but 2-4 of each is happy days.
Plants in Jars....the biggest snag imo. You can use Lirma Seeds for things and one of which actually destroys the item (rest can be deconned for item retrieval). Might be other things i havnt unlocked yet.

only lirma is actually limited as you need one for each biomass rocket and it won't grow back inside some corner of the desert.

seeds are limited but not consumed.

fabric also not actually consumed, as you can break your fancy bed and get fabric back.

Ok sounds good, thanks for the help with that!
Just noting that the plant items are called seeds in the game, thats why I confused food item seeds and plant item seeds, sorry about that.

Also Space Food.

Space Food and Seed Lirmas are the only finite resources that you can actually use up. Everything else you get back again when you deconstruct whatever you used them for.

Except there are less tangible finite resources such as item spawns in chests. Depending on when you open chests for the first time, they can have different contents. But you only get to open them for the first time once. So sometimes it may be worth saving a chest-opening until later in the game, when it will spawn better stuff.

I don't know if anyone still has Pulsar Shards... but they are no longer possible to craft, so if you have some they are finite. But you can't use them up anymore.

EDIT: Also, golden effigies. But they can't be used up either.

As you noticed, "Lirma" is the most annoying finite resource. They can be recovered by deconstructing the Biodome T1 and Grass Spreader. Oh, and the Flower Pot, but I've never made one of those. They can also be removed from Flower Spreader T1/T2 and Vegetube T1/T2/T3. If you use them in the Biomass Rocket, however, they are gone for good. And you really need to launch those rockets, so plane accordingly. You also lose them if you use them to sequence the tree seed.

There are also a few of the rare seeds, including the golden seed, which are a finite resource, but it isn't a big deal running out of them. They are purely optional.

I mentioned in the "F8" feedback that Lirma shouldn't be finite if it is required in the way it is. But I also expect that none of these mechanics are set in stone.

Just be aware when you launch Biomass Rockets that this is one less Lirma you're going to have access to, at least for the time being.

Pulsar shards are craftable in the current version, although they are so far up the tech tree I still haven't unlocked the crafting option after 10+ hours on my current savegame (I start a new world for every update)

How do you get more uranium, as I don't have enough to create an attractive rocket, and if I break down my reactors, I will be out of power, I don't yet have a T2 ore extractor either?
storm.hound May 29, 2022 @ 6:07pm
You need to get that T2 extractor, then you'll be swimming in the stuff.

As of 4.014 while some resources are finite, it's actually quite the effort to use them all up. In my current play through, I'm trying to convert all available flower seeds to tree seeds but there are 170 of them, which means I would need over 2300 algae to get to my goal of every one in T3 Tree spreaders. And if i were to add a matching number of Oxy satellites that's another 1000+.

Launching Heat boosting rockets. These will bring asteroid showers that give uranium ore. A few should mean that you will easily have a surplus of this type of ore. Throw in a couple of Pressure boosting rockets and you should have plenty of materials to make many rocket engines, and Nuclear generators if you have the tech unlocked.

To address the second part of your situation, build enough solar panels to cover the power of a reactor. I usually have 3 T1 extractors in the aluminum area and they provide the resources to create a forest of T2 (or even T1) solar panels.
