What do the units mean?
What are the various units? ppt, nK etc mean? Is there some order to them or something that makes sense?

ppm = parts per million, ppt = parts per trillion, mK = milli Kelvin (1/1000 of a degree), Pa = Pascal, nPa = nanoPascal (1/1000,000,000 of a Pascal), kT = kiloton (1000 tons probably Euopean tons)

Ti is special for the game, it is the Terraformation Index, calculated as Ti = Oxygen (in ppq) + Heat (in pK) + Pressure (in nPa) + Biomass (in gramms)..
TTi is teraTi, 1 000 000 000 000 Ti

The Wiki has some of this information,

And Wikipedia would have the explanation of the SI units.

And flora is able to grow at like 4mK... ie they don't mean ♥♥♥♥...

There has been some suggestion that the temperature is relative, but no indication of where the starting point is. ;-)

But yeah, Kelvin is a temperature scale with the same sized degrees as Celsius but with only positive values, 0 Kelvin is Absolute Zero, the unreachable minimum possible temperature , it's -273.15 degrees Celsius.(-459.7 degrees F)

In my head, I'm pretending our equipment was intentionally designed to show us the incorrect measurements, and that the Boss Corporation does this to hide these operations or something like that.

Just a suggestion. Use Celsius instead of Kelvin. The water being water would make more sense, (being liquid at what seems to be a very cool temperature.) Now that is more for the developers than players.

Perhaps they want to avoid having to pay to send us home even if we finish the job.

heh you are a criminal sent to this planet, what makes you think they would care to even reward you if/when you finish the job, when they sent you to this planet to die i the first place?

So does this mean the numbers on the screen are directly comparable? As in they are weighted equally?

In my example there, I'm killing it from Oxygen and Heat is about half as much. Biomass on the other hand is like zero percent of my total score?

Yeah, your biomass there is pitiful and it's obvious you haven't put much into it. (by comparison, my current score is around 800 TTi, and my biomass output is nearly 250x what yours is...so far as I know, the output rates are always measured in the smallest unit so you can compare numbers directly).

At first I was having trouble wrapping my head around it, but after starting a game and watching the Terraforming screen it made sense. 1Ti(Terraforming index)=1ppq(Oxy)=1nPa(Pressure)=1pK(heat)=1g(biomass). I guess the way I think of it is Terraforming index is the sum of the other four. You just need to figure out how much of a given unit you need to unlock a given tech. As an example if you had 1g of biomass and nothing else, you would have 1Ti. If you had 1 of each basic unit you would have 4Ti. If you had 1000nPa and 1 of each of the other basic units, that gives you 1003Ti though the screen would display 1.00kTi.

Yes, that's what happens because T3 Treespreaders have such a high Oxy output ((12500 Oxy + 650 bio)*1.5/s for Tree seeds). Every thing else is well below that. Next is T2 Flower spreader with a 600% flower, followed by the Biodome, T4 Heater and the T4 Drill.

So is there any reason to keep things even? Other than unlocking the category specific items? Once you have everything unlocked, if you want your Ti to go up, you can just focus on one category if you want? Like I could launch 100 Oxygen rockets and the Ti would skyrocket even though it does nothing for biomass?

The game never states what the starting temperature, atmospheric pressure, or oxygen level of the planet you were sent to terraform actually is.
It's obvious that it has a temperature well above zero degrees Kelvin, already has some atmospheric pressure, and quite possibly an unknown % of oxygen.
The Ti just indicates what you are adding to the existing temperature, pressure, and oxygen content.

It seems that the categories are comparable, an increase in one has the same effect on total Ti as an increase in one of the others.
Though for all we know they may add more unlockables later so for that reason (and just an overall sense of balance) I'm trying to keep things more or less even.
My Oxygen is increasing about 6 times faster than the rest, part of that is that the tree spreaders increase both Biomass and Oxygen and since my Biomass was lagging I've put a lot of effort into Tree Spreaders recently. Now my Biomass is increasing at the same rate as my Heat and Pressure but the value is still about 1/2 so I'll keep adding Tree Spreaders in an effort to get Biomass to catch up.

Do tree spreaders work without seeds? I have a ton of flower seeds but have only found like two tree seeds so far.
