Food, what am I missing?
So I started standard and I have 1 seed in the box. I eventually build the first O2 generator/veggie tube but I need 17,000 ppq of O2 before I can unlock the food grower!?

Uh... how do you survive that long?

There is space food in random blue storage boxes scattered around the landscape and in wrecked spaceships which will keep you going until you unlock the food grower. (You will need to make and equip the flashlight to explore the wrecks.)

You need to explore ;-)
There are crates scuttled all over the planet and also search the wrecks.
You'll find enough food until you're able of growing your own.

Well if you're not above cheesy tactics, you can simply save, exit to main menu, and when you restart your food will be back at max. Of course one would assume that "exploit" will go away as the development progresses. Other than that, there seem to be a lot of food packets, especially among the crashed ships and also many seed packets, with those I had little trouble making it until I had several food growers operating.

If you really like to cheese it, you can just let your food/water/oxygen run out, and respawn in the last building you were in, filling whatever ran out back to 50%.

This is a great way to explore/travel around the map on the easy difficulty, as you don't drop anything. You can literally run to the edges of the map at the start of the game to get blueprints, then die and respawn at base.

Works on easy mode only. On standard and above you'll lose your inventory or even the game (on hardcore mode) that way

Also if you are in anything other than hardcore mode (if I understand game modes correctly)... You can simply die just outside of your base and all your stuff remains in the chest outside the base where you died.

Problem with the save/load tactic is if you have rocket resources on the ground not picked up yet, they are likely not gonna be there when you reload. Not always but it does happen.

In relaxed mode, if you die, your food, water and O2 gets partially replenished too.

If you die in relaxed mode, you don't lose anything, all it does it port you to near the closest compartment. sometimes you get ported into a spot you can't move, which is comical.
