From the usual spawn point you'll see a crashed ship. If you follow that mountain to the right you hpefully see a cave...
You'll find iridium in two caves. One is at the sand fall cliff (where the sand is spilling over the cliff and looks like a "dirt waterfall". I'll let you find the other.
You'll have to gather 18 iridium so you can make two iridium rods so you can build a T2 Ore Extractor.
DON'T use the iridium for anything else until you've constructed 2 iridium rods for your first T2 extractor - iridium does not re-spawn (neither does osmium or uranium). If you run out and you've collected all the surface minerals all is not lost. You'll find more in crates and meteorites but its time consuming.
Place your first T2 Ore Extractor in a iridium cave. Every 15 minutes or so you'll extract 5 to 10 iridium plus 20-30 iron, titanium and magnesium. You've now solved your iridium problem. Just make sure to completely empty the extractor when you collect the iridium. Keep 9 or 10 iridium and turn all the rest into iridium rods. You'll need a ton of them.
Keep searching and you'll find another iridium cave, osmium caves, uranium caves, sulfur deposits and an aluminium "forest". Put a T2 extractor in each. You've now solved the problem of otherwise hard to find in quantity elements. You should never run short on aluminium, iridium, osmium, sulfur or uranium. Stockpile them in large lockers.
If you've constructed T1 extractors de-construct them. You'll have iron, colbalt, silicon, magnesium and titanium coming out your ears if you have the T2 extractors running. If you've run out of items to build use the "waste" elements plus aluminium and start stockpiling Special Alloy.
I don't want to spoil your exploring by telling you exactly where all of them are. After an hour or two of exploring you should be able to find them all.
Not using Iridium for anything until T2 mining is kind of crazy. You can build a rocket that sends down iridium meteors. I don't have T2 mining yet and have a TON of Iridium.
And if anyone is truly miffed by all the stuff you don't want coming out of the extractors just mod the game. Google is your friend, there have been mods and plugins for this since the demo
Plus you can dismantle and get the materials back. Every time I upgrade i replace previous tier drills, solar, etc... with stronger versions. Always worth it so far, don't lose rare materials, progress is linear and quick.
The same piece of iridium goes through every tier building with me. Never wasted or forgotten.
For future reference anything you want to know just type it in youtube and you will find the answer. There is videos showing you where any resource is, all locations.
Off the batt the Iridium cave where the sand is falling over the entrance is available right at the start and there is atleast 30 just lying on the ground
