The Planet Crafter
The end and the monsters
So I know it's been said on the roadmap that there will be no violence, guns, monsters etc...

However, that roadmap is a bit a older now. I would like to make a case for monsters and dangerous beasts becoming a thing as your terraforming index gets higher.

First of all, this planet is already weird as hell. Like you have all these crashed ships, no explanations, all sorts of weird, janky phenomena. One ship log I believe mentions something clinging onto the ship forcing it to crashland.

We see no bodies (Which logically we should if this planet is completely barren and devoid of life, it wouldn't necessarily have the decomposers in place to properly decompose the corpses of crew members of the various ships that crashlanded. The people that starved to death on the planet and what not. We should see a bunch of those corpses laying about... unless... there is some darker thing lurking beneath the planet's surface?)

What if the terraforming awakens some strange creatures, similar to the Flood from Halo, a parasite that hijacks the host and twists it into an abomination. The terraforming would be the kickstarter to awakening these creatures from their long slumber.

(I'm not saying turn this into a survival horror experience, I'm just giving some backstory presence for this)

I'd put some monsters out roaming the vast, landscape, once it starts getting populated with flora and fauna.

Players get complacent when things are going their way. The exciting part about the beginning of the game is the threat of food, oxygen, and water, as well as getting hit by those dang meteors. However, at a certain point the dangers become rather moot, and the game becomes easy... New threats should emerge to keep the player on their toes. A hostile alien presence would do just that! As the terraforming continues, more exotic and dangerous beasts and aliens will spawn out in the wild in addition to the typical flora and fauna.

At the very least, more dangers should make themselves present. I'm talking hurricane-like storms, maybe even ground shattering earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. You are terraforming the planet, and that has some real effects, you know! Flash floods, tsunamis, we need some serious threats to arise from the complacency of late game.

As I'm typing this out, I'm in game, chilling in my base. I have like 10x growers and a water filter, so I can just grab a snack or drink whenever without worrying about these mechanics anymore. The meteors made me worry, until I realized they didn't actually damage structures and as long as I was inside, they couldn't hurt me. I can literally AFK for however long it takes for my character to get thirsty. It's too easy, give me some more dangers to worry about, threats that will make me wonder if I'm going to perish!

I also believe adding some sort of monstrous, mysterious, alien life forms would lend even more mystery to the planet.

I mean, the game is still pretty bare, I would expect they plan on adding more in the future (we already know harder planets is on the menu) and maybe that's a challenge they plan on adding within the scope of those.

Given our convict status, beasts would probably fit better as an avoidance challenge than a combat one, building lures and repellents to keep the nasties away while we develop our project world.
I thought that maybe building lures and repellents would be a good way to go rather then straight up combat, but at least a tazer stick or something to keep em away if not kill them.

If it's too easy for you, play it hard.

some people have more trouble than others, you have to not be selfish

Why does some player always want
- make it more difficult
- that there are monsters to face
- that there are enemies to kill

can't you get enough violence? so go to ukraine

If it was to have monsters or enemies to kill, you had to say it before I wouldn't have bought this game

sorry for the kick
Yeah, and there are easier difficulties for those people who have trouble, but the thing is, after a certain point NO ONE HAS ANY TROUBLE. The difficulty disappears after a certain point and it become easier than playing minecraft in creative mode.

I've got more than enough food, I can drink from any lake or carry around 6x flasks of water with me if I want, and I have a net of outposts that basically mean I will never suffocate unless I decide to AFK outside for 10 minutes.

If you want a game with no challenge, again, go play Minecraft on peaceful mode or creative :P

I want a Terraforming experience, which should include all sorts of nasty monsters and weather conditions and terrain conditions. Things that really make you struggle to overcome the odds and then bask in the glory of the fully terraformed world once it has been fully completed.

Also way to go, bringing in IRL politics into a game discussion, you totally don't look like a D-bag doing that...

If you really want violence take it all
you haven't played DayZ, 7 Days to Die, Scum, Dying Light 2 Stay Human or Lost Light

I got interested in this game because the Devs said during the beta that there would be no monsters or fights!

There are ways to have other challenges in other ways. and I'm sure the devs will bring them into the game

There is no life when you arrive on the planet to terraform it
so why would the monsters arrive by the anointing of the holy spirit?

Me too, I want a terraforming experience, which by no means!!! should include all kinds of nasty monsters. corn
weather and ground conditions. Things that really make you struggle to overcome obstacles also for me

Finally, please keep your insults to yourself.

the devs do exactly right in NOT having monsters in the game. noat all ahs to be shoot em up.and you send ppl to play minecraft? you go play wow or lol or something "more challange# for you then and let us no violence players enjoy planet crafter. but sure some bodies or remains from the pther crashed ships would be to prefer not lootable but just remains. thanks for a very great game for us calmplayers:-)
LEAVE the game alone .He tells you what will not be in this game and I personally do not want to see anything that is on that list come into the game. You want that go else where. Sorry but that is my Opinion.
There are enough survival games out there where you fight monsters and ♥♥♥♥. It's refreshing to see finally a survival game WITHOUT monsters. I hope the devs will NOT add monsters.
Might as well take the survival element out of play then with all these softies. Why make death a thing then? That's pretty violent you know! Should only have a peaceful mode where you don't die, you just have a red screen showing the planet is harming you when you have no oxygen or food or water, oh wait! That's too violent and aggressive :P

Might as well remove needs bars and just turn it into a peaceful game where you don't have to worry about oxygen, food, or water, and just terraform in peace. The devs should just make the player a robot sent to terraform the planet, that would literally remove all three of those needs.
It would be a bit odd to not have carnivores (who might view you as a snack) at some point, yeah. And herbivores aren't always peaceful, either.

Maybe push for the devs to support modding instead? I really doubt they will ever add such features into the game. Modders certainly might though, and having an open modding API goes a long way for making that become a reality. I'm hoping they'll add modding support, because I always love seeing what cool concepts people come up with for altering or improving gameplay and the overall experience.
It's super early at the moment (hopefully more is coming) but I'm kinda tired of "aliens/beasts" but agree that something more is needed. I'd like to see more humans and some sort of interaction at that level. we're here to terraform the place, the debris/spacecraft really needs to be explained if I'm on a PLANNED mission to terraform. I agree we're going to need some objectives, "we're successful not terraform another place with different issues to work on" At the price point currently though I'm not very optimistic at this stage on how far the game will get in dev.

I mean in my post I even said It wouldn't even really have to be monsters/aliens per say. It can just be the side effects from terraforming a planet. A barren wasteland suddenly getting water, would definitely create some rather hellish storms during the terraformation process.

Solar flares, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. All sorts of dangers that can be made to keep the player constantly on edge even in the later stages. I worry this game will become stagnant (like it feels right now clawing my way through the insect stage of planet development.)
I am happy with the game as it is I don't feel the need to want to kill things. There could be other types of danger though as others have pointed out. As for coop is it really needed as the game stands? You would get through the game in no time. Sad to see such negativity for the game though.
