Any tips for getting squad to stay behind cover?
I use the move command on my squad members to get them to stay behind cover, I get them to use suppressive fire on enemies in front of me as i flank the enemy. then i look back and they've just left cover, standing in the middle of the open field and get shot... 'hold position' doesn't seem to be enough either. They seem intent on getting shot.

I think I'm just complaining because the game is hard tbh.
I've just changed my tactics a little bit and I've managed to get past where I was. Thanks anyway. Awesome game once you learn to have patience for it.

I have the answer to this guys:

When I want my squad to assault a position quickly and aggressively, I tell them to "Assault"
When I want my squad to assault a position safely using lots of cover, I tell them to "Defend" the postion I want to take: In this method they move from cover to cover, suppressing and moving in turn. I use "Defend" for almost everything these days, it's so good.

Same problem here - my squad is more of a hindrance than help in stealth missions. How do you tell them to just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stay where they are instead of running out into the open and get shot like headless chicken?
