Earlier TSW DLCs
Just watching my Wish list and searching the TSW2 shop site for earlier DLCs, they disappeared because of Dovetail's decision. So it seems impossible to get DLCs from former TSW parts (Preserved Collection for example), just for TSW3? I understand, you can't buy even DLC for former TSw games?

It was announced prior to TSW3's launch that all TSW1/2/3 DLC would be merged to single store page (in the TSW3 store).

If you buy any DLC there with the 'TSW compatible' logo, it will work with any TSW version you own and the DLC is compatible with.

The only thing which has changed is you are unable to purchase the base TSW2 game any longer. Hope this helps

Yes, another stupid decision to force you to buy TSW3. In the long run you will like that anyway.

It doesn't actually force you to buy anything as you don't need to own TSW3 to buy it's DLC. The TSW2 DLC when bought from here will work with TSW2....nothing has been changed but I admit it can be a little confusing to non-TSW3 owners

Ah OK. Thanks for this information. So, if I buy the TSW 2 Preservered Collection under TSW3, it is available in TSW 2020, TSW 2 and TSW3?

And it is a little bit dumb, that the DLCS for TSW2 in your wish list not listed or disappeared, so you have to relist them again. But not all available.

So, buying / owning TSW3 and buying TSW2 DLC's will incorporate into TSW3.
Umm would this not have been better done like other games have ie; Dead Space comes to mind, allow the player import from DS1 to DS2 and have player + while still being able to play DS1, could this not have been done with TSW___ fill in the number 1/2/3/?

Rather than rework / recode the DLC's to the most recent game, are they not all made with the same engine. I would think maybe kinda sorta it would be less work in man hours, cost less in development time, while still making a fairly good profit...

Yes...as long as the DLC you buy originated from that version of TSW

Examples

- if you buy Peninsula Corridor it will activate in TSW2020, TSW2 & TSW3

- If you buy Clinchfield Railway, it will activate in TSW2 & TSW3 only (as it was TSW2 DLC)

Got a problem regarding the earlier DLCs. Although it seems stated in former posts that it is possible to buy and use them in earlier versions of the game, I'm trying to get the late Island Line for my TSW2 and Steam cancels the transaction with this message: "Your transaction failed because you are trying to buy 'Train Sim World® 2: Island Line 2022: BR Class 484 EMU Add-On' which requires ownership of 'Train Sim World® 3'. Please correct the error and try again." Help would be appreciated.

I would contact Steam and/or DTG support.....as it is not supposed to work that way

Contacted Steam support when I posted. They have answered nicely and quickly telling me that they will forward the issue to the appropiate team to resolve it and thanking me for the reporting. Up to date sadly all remains the same. I'll insist once more and keep you updated.

I have the same issue with the Island Line DLC. I'll log a support call as well, hopefully the more that do, the more likely they'll do something... can only hope.
The one thing I did notice different about this DLC was that when browsing from within the game, it didn't show a price. The price was only shown once in to Steam itself.

I think that's by design. They WILL TRY to force you to buy TSW3, and they put out that info just to reduce the initial uproar. They are rotten to the core. I won't spend another red cent on their stuff.

That is sadly in principle my suspicion too... In that case I suppose DTG is going to see how their more faithful customers are leaving to never return, specially concerning TSW3. In any case I'm going to give them a last chance...

I'm currently trying to buy BR Class 484 EMU Add-On and it doesn't work on TSW2 page (no add to cart button), and on TSW3 page it says I need to own TSW3. It's starting to look bad in my opinion. Any one is able to buy this addon from tsw2?
sean_brad Sep 24, 2022 @ 11:28am
This is my laughable response from Steam Support...

"According to the game's store page:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1998971/Train_Sim_World_2_Island_Line_2022_BR_Class_484_EMU_AddOn/
The content requires the base game Train Sim World® 3 on Steam in order to play.
You will have to purchase the base game in order to play.
"
I have replied with Dovetails FAQ's regarding downloading TSW2 add-ons.
This is my first experience with Steam support... not impressed

But isn't that how it's supposed to work now? You will need to buy the DLC through the TSW3 page, but as it has the Train Sim World Compatible logo on the store page, it will work with TSW2 and TSW3. So once you buy it on TSW3 store, you will automatically get it for TSW2 as well.

There is more information in the bottom of this link regarding add ons.
