Have you loaded a save game? If so, avoid that it causes red signals that never turn green again.
Did the same service a second time, taking care not to run on yellow signals and using the TAB key to open and close doors. Worked for me then :)
Set my train's brake at the red signal and jumped out. Preceded to RUN down the entire length of track, passing the three or so trains stopped at their respective red light signals. Found the culprit train at the station, sitting at the green signal with no intention of moving.
Jumped aboard but left the train cab door OPEN. The game wont give you direct control from the engineer's seat (there's a female driver taking up the space) BUT you can still manage the instrument panel like normal.
So I set the master, direction, and put it into drive. The train started moving and - in true John McClane fashion - I jumped out. The train went about its merry way into infinity and the others then followed as their signals had gone green.
Ran back to my loco (take care not to get hit by the inbound trains), took it into drive, and made it all the way to the end without any further issue.
Shouldn't be like this but it is.
