Sand Patch Grade - Issues with inclines & Stalling
Hi!
I've been having lots of issues with various scenarios on sand patch grade, where I reach a section of incline, and slowly loose speed until I stop, and am unable to continue.
I've had this issue on Fully Fuelled, Cumberland Charge, and most recently on Powering America part 1.

I only ended up trying using the GP38 and SD40 on Fully Fuelled and Cumberland Charge. I made sure to look up how to set the different trailing/leading units, and took information from this source (https://train-sim-world.fandom.com/wiki/Driving_the_SD40-2,_GP38-2_and_GP40-2).

I thought using the AC4400CW would help, as it has higher horsepower. I tried using it with Powering America part 1. It seemed as though it was tackling some of the hills okay, and I went along at around 10 MPH for around 1.5 hours real time. But I eventually hit a 1.6% incline, and sure enough, I was unable to climb it.

The brakes, cut-in valves, etc. were all set pursuant to the source linked above.

If anyone could help me out, that would be very appreciated. I really like TSW2 and the sand patch grade scenario, but this keeps happening to me on every hill i climb, making the scenarios not fun at all.

Yes, like above^^!
The default scenario trains are not configured properly for multiple locomotives!
Do as suggested above! It will work like a charm!

Thank you! I'll try that out right now. Do any of the settings change on the AC4400CW, as it has slightly different controls? Or is it still all the same?

when in cab off first loco in neutral press 2 external View twice then apply throtal to 8 should be able to see smoke increase out of rear locos then you will know config is correct. at first red wait 20Min before proceeding then you wont be at the rear off train in front as it is very slow.

The advice worked! I tried it on fully fueled and I was able to make it up the climb. I did have some small difficulties with starting from a stop along the way, but it all worked out in the end (lots of sand and prayers). I am having a problem at the very end of the scenario being stuck at a danger signal, but that's unrelated to my issue here, and i think i've seen other discussions about that issue.
Thanks again!

It seems to be a bug that occurs by saving the game, and loading the saved game. Other people seemed to have the same issue.

I am having the very same issue. I can't believe this problem has been around since December of 20??? What the hell is so difficult about this fix?

The fix is not in the game, but in the DTG manuals and tutorials, neither of which are particularly helpful or comprehensive. I think they expect players to discover what to do and how to find all the controls and switches for themselves, but it only leads to frustration when things don't work and there is no obvious solution.
Sometimes it is the smallest thing that stops the loco working, it took me a while to discover the comm radio switch had to be on for the trailing locos to receive the control signal from the lead loco.
Once you are fully familiar with all the controls, everything works as it should, but the learning curve in unnecessarily steep, and it need not be. Trying to be faithful to the prototype is a curse and a blessing, it is complicated and realistic in operation, but you have to have helpful manuals and tutorials in order to play the game.
I found YouTube tutorials to be the most help, seeing the exact place to hover the cursor in the cab and what the hidden controls did was better than the text instructions and hunting the Net for TSW2 wikis.

I appreciate your feedback Mojo, but I have the correct settings for this scenerio and everything works just fine. My problem is, this being such a long play through, if I don't finish it in one sitting and need to save my progress... when I come back and load the save, the game is bugged and my settings, even though correct no longer work.
