So, if I reach that point in the story, would my "Missing DLC" locked character automatically be unlocked because I unlocked the archetype?
You didnt preorder it so you will never have the DLC in that sense. You will simply unlock the archetype through gameplay like everyone else who did not preorder.
To get gunslinger you have to listen to all of mudtooth's stories, which is more or less just as you are about to enter root earth map i think.
If anything, reach out to support after unlocking Gunslinger if it doesn't unlock your previous character.
There is one thing I did try and that was downloading a savegame from the internet with everything unlocked and opening it. I automatically got more than 10 achievements, but my character is still blocked. I don't know if I should interpret that as a possible failed attempt in case I beat the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game and not be able to unlock my "pirate" character.
Its not even close to the entire game, just beat two worlds and talk to mudtooth untill you get the gunslingers chamber. Maybe if you just baught the game and played it, you'd be less stressed.
I mean....overall thats your own fault xD
Alternatively what you could try (make a backup of your save first though)
In the pirated version, since you say you beat the game, talk to mudtooth until you exhaust all of his dialogs (if you have not re-rolled campaign again and start from scratch) until he gives you the gunslinger unlock. After that try using that save game in the official bought one and it should keep the gunslinger unlocked.
The solution itself is to create a new character and honestly manually get the "gunslinger" class (listen to all the stories of the "old tooth").
As I did - with the help of a trainer and a speedhack, I ran through the entire story company to the final mission in about half an hour, after which I returned to the base and listened to all the stories there.
