Trait Cap Mod
I have hit the 65 (out of 295 possible) trait cap after my first playthrough and decided to get and try the mod to remove the cap for my second. So i went to Nexus Mods and downloaded the "Trait Cap Increase" mod and gave it a shot.

Long story short, I cant get it to work. Anyone out there use this mod and have any tips as to where to put files and how to make it work, or another working one to suggest?

------------------------------------------------------

First I downloaded the "Allow Asset Mods" and extracted it to my remnant 2 folder. I tried the one that says it should work when you are host to save my buddies all the effort of doing this when we play together but had no luck. After that, I tried the version that only affects the host and wouldnt change anything for them but still no luck. First tried putting folder in there and copying it over existing folder, then tried pulling every file out of folders and putting it manually where file path says it goes and still didnt work.

Any help is appreciated from those that have actually got this to work.

------------

I only play online with my buddies and dont multi with random people in this game, but for those that will inevitably complain about this mod anyway, here is what it says it does.

"If you are in a public lobby and you are the host, your trait cap will be set to 295 for you only.
If you are in a public lobby and you are not the host, this mod will do nothing. Your cap will be 65."

Yes, I definitely could. That was the only one I was trying, would want to use the one that only effects me ideally.

Alright. I will basically go in order from scratch more or less. First off, in order to install the 'allow assets' mod properly, you need to extract the contents of the zip file and keep the directory structure into the steam/steamapps/common/remnant2 folder (That is, the FIRST folder inside common)

This results in the creation of a mods folder inside the win64 folder, and xinput1_3.dll and UE4ss_settings.ini in the win64 folder.
That is, Steam\steamapps\common\Remnant2\Remnant2\Binaries\Win64

Once you have done THAT, installing the actual trait cap mod is fairly easy.
You can either extract the contents of the trait cap mod in exactly the same way as you did the allow assets mod, which adds a folder TraitCapMod into the mods directory
It would be steam/steamapps/common/remnant2/remnant2/binaries/win64/mods/traitcapmod
Or you can simply navigate inside the trait cap mod zip file, and extract the traitcapmod folder and it's contents directly into the mods folder yourself. Keep in mind, I am only referring to how to set it up on computer, NOT SteamDeck. I have no idea how that works.
To sum it up, if you installed the allow assets mod properly, your folder would look something like this

Afraid I don't use mods so I can't help you much, but there is a "posts" section in Nexus with a wealth of information. I would recommend looking there first of all.

Maybe try rolling a N'Erud adventure and snag a quick trait book there with the mod active first just to confirm whether it works.

Was at a good point in my adventure to keep testing this and gaining trait points but none ever counted. Was hoping with all the debate on the trait issue that at least a few people who had downloaded mod and got it to work would see this and help me out.

Dont use mods very often and when I do its games like Total War where you just click on the ones you want and dont have to mess with any folders like this one.

Maybe there is an easier one out there and I am just using the wrong one, but for the life of me I couldnt get it to work.

There’s a remnant2 folder inside the first remnant2 folder

You installed in the correct location?

I tried both, first just put it in first remnant folder and hoped it worked. When it didnt, I copied the folder over the second remnant 2 folder. When that didnt work I tried taking every individual item in the folder and copying them over where the path said they would go.

I use the one that is for single player only.

Maybe a recent patch borked the other one

You might want to consider downloading a mod manager. If memory serves Nexus makes one.

You install the manager and then you download the mods and the manager allows you to more easily control their order, and also get rid of them if you don't like them.

Also when modding always back up your save file. This applies to any game you choose to mod.

Didnt know there was a mod manager, Ill download that and hope it does all the heavy lifting for me. Good advice on backing up game, I would suggest this to everyone that plays even those who dont use mods. Wish I had in the first remnant where a bad stick of ram led to corrupt save files and it erased 100% of my progress.

That is the one I tried second but didnt have any luck either. How exactly did you do it, mod manager or manually?

I tried extracting and then copying both the Allow mods steamdeck and Trait cap mod into the second remnant2 folder and felt that should have worked but it changed nothing and the next trait point I got didnt put me over 65.

Far be it for me to detract you from using mods, but Vortex (aka Nexus mod manager) is probably the worst mod manager I have ever come across. *If* it supports a given game out of the box (otherwise you'll need to download a plugin separately) you will need to download, then install, then activate and THEN deploy the mods before launching the game through the mod manager. It's... not very intuitive or makes it much easier imo.

I mentioned the "posts" section of the mod because you can find a link to the modding discord there, where people will probably be able to help you directly with your install problems. I didn't mention it directly because while I am pretty sure you can just mention communities in the Steam discussions, I don't want to make it look like I'm trying to promote it or something. But it's the place I would go for advice if I had problems with the mod.

That was exactly my experience. I downloaded the mod manager and then it wanted me to download a plugin, which all finished with it not even having remnant 2 listed and requiring more steps before I gave up.

Was hoping to avoid all that with more apps and more logins which is why I avoided the discord in the first place. Was supposed to have a vid there showing how to install but never loacted that and decided I might find someone on here that had already successfully installed the mod that could walk me through it.

thanks for taking the time to explain that. After getting done I believe i have everything where it should go. Folder structure looks the same I just dont have the Cache and CXXheaderDump folder in mine. MIght be because I just reinstalled game to make sure I got rid of old clutter from first attempt to install that mod?

Will let you know if it worked when i get a chance to jump on and grab a trait book.

Maybe so. Or those might be from a program I used to extract and browse stuff in the game. Either way those should not impact if mods work
