it'll be a challenge, especially what with pc having access to mods, while consoles don't
so if there is going to be any cross plat play, they might limit it to just the console area and save time, rather than try and figure out a way to also include the shenanigans on pc
I think you might be confusing cross-play with cross-platform as you cant play R1 with other console players, only steam/epic.
Besides that, not many games even support cross-platform.
I know there are a few of them but i only remember destiny 2, newer call of duty titles, warframe, borderands 3, diablo4, sure there are a few more but not too many.
However there are tons of games that does support pc/xbox, but not PC/PS.
This is just random numbers/simply not 100% accurate and it never will be, but i think there are roughly 40 cross platform across all.
About 100 xbox/pc, if not even more.
About 30 Pc/PS
As i said, its not 100% accurate but it gives a rough idea about how few games there is that dont support full cross-platform.
Well i for one dont even like cross-platform, not if its gonna be like it is on cold war and destiny 2, if you are playing on pc and you find another lobby and the host in that lobby is on a console it will be an unplayable mess due to massive lag!
Well, i dont mind if it has optional opt-in for cross-platform, but i dont want it to be forced, then it can f*** off, auto matchmaking should never be forced.
Heck, even my friend who mainly plays on PS4 hate it, he dont mind if you can add and play together over platforms, but he dont want forced cross-platform matchmaking.
The other thing, well this part dont even bother me, but it sure does bother console players are mods.
And i think its unfair that PC users can use mods while console can not, and kind off gives pc players an unfair advantage.
- Steam and Epic players can play together but not with the other players,
- XBox One/Series and PC MS Store players can play together but not with the other players,
- PS4/5 players can play together but not with the other players.
On the second one:
- Steam and Epic cross play is still possible,
- game available on XBox Series but not XBox One neither on the PC MS Store,
- game available on PS5 but not on PS4.
R2 has less cross play options than R1 but only because R2 is available on less plateforms.
But there are no cross play options on R1 that could have been on R2 that are not on R2.
(Btw, there are quite a few games on Steam with cross play now.)
If you have a Steam or Epic version, you can only play wiht Steam and Epic players.
Most recent feedbacks on this I found (but there are quite a few older ones stating the same also):
