Help with Postulant's Parlor door?

So, I can't seem to get the bottom left door open in Postulant's Parlor.

I did some poking around, and around here claimed they heard it had to be opened in Co-Op, something about the only one of the two doors being open at once. So, I guess someone has to stay behind and walk through to get the chest or whatever is there. I heard it was a ring. Can anyone confirm this, and help me to get to it?

you can get it open in solo, just win the chess game with one of the pieces located in the right spot

That's pretty hard to do, and as far as I know, winning the game just unlocks that door behind the statue.

I'm not sure about solo, but you can definitely do it with two people.
Put a white pawn there, have your buddy move right infront of the door, and then it opens when a black pawn is there and they can progress forward- but will be locked in the spot until stuff moves around again.
It rewards a ring that reduces damage by 10% but also splits damage between others (Can't remember if it's other wearers or just other people in the party).

You can't. Having a piece in that area only opens one door while removing it opens the other. The reward is a coop item that is only useful in coop.

I got this item with the help of someone else in another thread, so consider it resolved for me.
