Online is really only there if you want people (friends) to join your game.
If it's blocked in the firewall it won't even get past the title screen.
Allow it for a sec to get past that, block it again, and you can make a character, but if you try to actually start the game, it'll sit on "connecting" for a minute or two then just return to the main menu.
So no, you can't play it offline.
You can play solo, but it won't run without a open net connection.
Warning. Even when set to offline mode. Pausing the game still doesn't exist at all.
making a new discussion rather then a necro is better btw
