mods that change world gen don't change world gen if you've already gen'd the world
items can't replace other items even if they have the same internal name, mods can break in other ways but you can have 20 different mods add their own TownNPC_Blacksmith for example and still be able to spawn and interact with all of them
If the mods adds structures and biomes on initial world creation then you'd have to start over to experience the entire mods content
You should not having issues with crashes or bugs, but some features it will be imposible to get it because an structure from the mod is needed.
Example:
Crazy Assorted Things add a mini-room in the Dungeon where is a boss hide. If u add this mod in a world already created, this room will not be generated and you will be unavailable to fight with him, but nothing critical (except for the fact no items from the boss and the fight with the boss).
