Answer: The Calamity Dev team collectively decided to want to shift our focus on weapon-related content that would be more efficient for our time and more enjoyable for the player base overall. Thus, we decided that it’d be best to cut down on a ton of the weapon/item bloat within our mod, where we removed weapons that are not worth keeping around.

This was decided through several votes across the team between testers and developers alike, along with a long in-depth meeting analyzing each weapon that we put up on the chopping block. Many factors were included in the decision to remove specific items, whether that be because giving them interesting reworks would not be worth the hassle, we felt that people were not using them at all, or that they were just not keeping up with other weapons in a tier that already has too many to begin with.

As a result, we hopefully want to bring into effect a situation where there are far less tiers with tons of weapons that felt same-y or boring and took way too much effort on our end to upkeep for quality & balancing. This way we have more time to spend on improving weapons that we do want to keep and to hopefully make them even better!
Personally, quantity can be a quality itself, but I've found myself with half a hotbar of weapons that fill a ever so slightly different role each back during my 1.3 ranger and mage playthroughs.

yeah when i played the 1.3.5 versions i would have up to 7 different mage weapons that i would use, now with them removing and reworking so many mage weapons i find myself using only 1, and late game i would opt to not even upgrade because of how much different they made some weapons

Im pretty sure they changed how some items are gotten/dropped and crafted, i think some of the changes are actually for the worse
