I can't install tModLoader, HELP! What do I do? [Updated 2024]
To install tModLoader on Steam, you need to own Terraria on Steam. Simply browse for tModLoader on Steam and install it. The tModLoader installation will exist alongside the vanilla installation, allowing you to play both vanilla and modded without the hassle of reinstalling vanilla.

Detailed installation instructions which are actively maintained by the community can be found here: https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/wiki/tModLoader-guide-for-players#steam-installation

Common causes of issues:

1) Your Antivirus is blocking TML. Try making an exception for TML in your Antivirus.
2) If you are using OneDrive, you have to try and make an exception for your documents or the my games/terraria folder.
3) You don't own Terraria on Steam
4) You are missing .dll files
5) Your installation is corrupt

Please read our installation instructions here before commenting:
https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/wiki/tModLoader-guide-for-players

Let us know if you still have blocking issues.

Ever since the update earlier my Tmodloader keeps on popping up a Disk write error when trying to download/update it. I've tried to clear Download cache and reinstalling it. It work before the first update but now it doesn't. (Its the only game/mod that has ever pop this error)

I was having disk write error as well, disabled antivirus for 2 seconds to install it and it worked perfectly. Too lazy to set up an exception? Just turn it off and back on again ezpz

The best way to avoid disk error is by launching Steam with admin permissions.

I have the problem that if I launch tmodloader in steam and than when I am in game and go to my mods I cant press any button for example: I cant go back or disable/enable mods. Same problem in the mod browser. Can anyone tell me how to fix that problem?

Is tModLoader compatible with Linux? Terraria is running fine on Ubuntu 20.04 but when I got to the mod page on steam to install it, a pop up shows like it's going to be installed but is quickly closed and nothing happens. Any help on this?
Tmodloader exported an old character and duplicated it 60 times and there is 60 characters and makes me not be able to play can someone help? please i really wanna play.

Hey man, since the newest update for TML my friend has been unable to launch the game. We've tried verifying game files, reinstalling both terraria and tml. Both steam installs are in the same directory, and yet my friend is recieving an error

Terraria: Error (tModLoader v0.11.7.2)

Terraria Steam installation or Terraria Content directory not found.

Please ensure Terraria 1.4 is installed through Steam.

Please restore your Terraria install, then install tModLoader on Steam or by following the README.txt instructions for manual installation.

We think this is caused by the change in the new update;
Installation:
- Added checks for correct Content directory and Terraria install

I would like to add that he is on MacOS, I've added you on steam by this account in case the issue is unable to be resolved within a short period of time on this discussion :)

We deployed a hotfix that should resolve this issue, try updating again.
