I just made a Galaxia sword and it just tore bosses to shred in half a minute without any armor set or accessory dedicated to melee that took my full build range blood, sweat and tears just to finish.

TLDR how good ranger is with every update:
1.4: Average but solid
1.5: Average but solid
2.0: Meh
2.0.1: Meh
2.0.2: Meh
2.0.3: Meh
2.0.4: BAD
Anyways I see what the devs are going to turn ranger into: a weak, boring, but consistent damage class. Ranger has the best range and easiness to hit enemies, especially bosses with, which along with it having some of the best single target DPS (very good in every mod outside of calamity, and even in calamity it was pretty solid until 2.0.4), makes it one of the most popular choices for bossing. In these understandable but still objectively drunk dev's opinions and their twisted sense of balance (obsession with hating the above average), ranger simply can't be made to have even average let alone solid or above average levels of damage or else it will be a "go to class" for all of the players, especially for bossing and bossing is the biggest part of calamity no questions asked. Do I agree that ranger would be a go to class for bossing? Yes. But the way calamity absolutely neutered ranger to degrees that people cannot even comprehend is just full-blown Jim Crow level bigotry against ranger at this point. Let's take a deeper dive. Each class is supposed its pros and cons: melee is good at crowd control, survivability, and close ranged high dps at the cost of range. Summoner has immense DPS and automatic damage through minions at the cost of low survivability and possibly not having long range. Mage is pure dps at the cost of mana management and survivability. Rogue amazing at the cost of mediocre range and requiring aimed and well timed uses of stealth strikes. Ranger I think was designed to have to have long range, consistent and easy to deal damage, and amazing single target DPS. This by itself might be too strong, especially cause this would make ranger one of the top if not the best boss killers, and calamity is all about killing bosses. So a mod like calamity is somewhat justified at making ranger less powerful, and that worked fairly fine in older version of calamity before the 2.0.4 raping ranger update; ranger had either average but still solid dps or at least serviceable dps and has some combos like spicy ammo that can significantly boost your DPS. It was decent at bossing especially if you had bullets that spawned extra low damage projectiles and used methods to reduce enemy defense. Obviously armor penetration methods were nerfed, and ranger's weapons were nerfed, and the bullets were nerfed but it still remained alright with average but consistent and easy to deal long range damage until 2.0.4. where it received a trillion unjustified and extremely crippling nerfs, and now its DPS is clearly below average. Read the changelogs, they nerfed even VANILLA RANGER AMMO AND WEAPONS that weren't even above average in anyway let alone above average compared to other classes. All bonus projectiles from bullets now deal 1 damage to bosses cause they deal like 10% of the damage of the original projectile. Arrows were also oofed though they remains serviceable, but guns are now essentially worthless. This cannot be justified in any way. Ranger literally no longer exists in calamity. Now the devs are mad at ranger is too easy to use so they had to make it a crutch noob trap for those who can't aim. Aside from being easy to aim and use long, it's bad at everything. Single target, multi target, bossing, events, even long range combat, ranger is the worst class because of its nonexistent DPS, especially with guns. if you are playing ranger, don't use guns, I see no point in using guns, though bows may have redeeming qualities. Or just don't play ranger, save yourself the trouble. Summoner is better honestly, it has less survivability and range but is better in every way with amazing DPS if you want easy consistent DPS, just get somewhat closer and learn how to dodge or get tankier. Ranger is now obsolete. It's now is incapable of serving its original traits, roles, and purpose of a simple and probably boring but long range consistent great single DPS class. Calamity turned it into a boring but consistent long damage class that is incredibly weak and outclassed in every way by damage, and is now hopelessly overshadowed by the other 4 classes. Even if you land all your hits your DPS would be abysmal so what's the damn point of using this class. This is what calamity devs wanted probably, ranger too easy to use especially against bosses so it must be weak and outclassed hopelessly in every other way. I don't think this is the answer. I'd rather ranger be slightly above average and a meta pick than hopelessly below average. Justice for rangers, ranger lives matter!
