How to get herring staff?

not able to find any abyss chests and wiki isn't telling how to get it, does anyone know?

well first of all in order to get herring staff and open abyss chests you need to beat skeletron then you can go and get the abyss chests in the first layer if abyss then its just rng and finding stuff

The Herring Staff is a Pre-Hardmode summon weapon that is found in the Ancient Treasure Chests in the Abyss. this is according to the ACTUAL calamity wiki so maybe because you use fandom

if there are no chests thats due to infernum reworking the abyss, you would need to bug net a specific fish down there or fish for crates

I found it but i can't catch this fish with my bug net. How to do it?

I'm not sure if this is already relevant, but it might help others.

I have been looking for this fish for an hour. This is a friendly mob that VERY rarely spawns.
It spawns at Abyss level 1 (where Moray Eels spawn and Planty Mush is mined). His sprite is the same as on the staff.

You need to catch it with a net (you can use a regular one) and the staff will appear in your inventory.

fish is spawns in Abyss level 1. it looks like a regular fish and have 5 hp. i recommend buy/craft Battle potion so it will have increased spawn rate. I got 3 Herring Staff in about 15min

gotta be the stupidest change, it just annoying to find these fishes. and if you ever find it, good luck catching it without it dying because you stare at him too intense
