Infurnum Abyss Confusion?

Me and my friend need to get some weapons respectively from the Abyss [the Archerfish for my friend and The Herring for me]. So far we have found no chests down in the abyss to get them and I've potentially heard Infernum changes how you get these abyss items [or abyss items as a whole more so]. Did we just get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by chance and didn't get any chests or is there a new infernum way to get the aforementioned. If so how?

Edit: Figured out the Archerfish but still am confused for the Herring Staff and future unlocks? Any tips on infernum changes?

Infernum removes all the chests yes, you already figured out how to get the Archerfish but to get the Herring Staff you need to find a Herring critter in the Abyss and catch it with a bug net. (they spawn closer to the top so don't go looking deep down for them)

It's craftable in Infernum.
