the balance is fine and more into the challenging things which is well also fine but then i also feel like other things sit too close to the unfair edge of things
doing revengence, old duke felt annoying to fight having some vortet attack that just gets in the way slowing you down and a dash that is perfectly accurate and as far as i could tell no way to know it than just timing
i found myself plenty of times dashing 0.1ms too early etc
and then the ceaceless void is just a nightmare to look at when sheild orbs are up it takes to understand THE EXACT MOVEMENTS of the orbs to even properly avoid them which isnt consitnet at all because it depends on the movement of the miniboss himself
when his sheilds are down it is more bareable but even then at first glance its just dumb
i know he used to be weak (first time in revengence) but as of now he just feels way more like you just gotta get lucky to tank enough hits than actually a dodgeable boss
theres a difference between being challenging and just being annoying / bad design
even the plantera gas orbs that it left behind gave me problems as i didnt even realise they were moving as i was too focused with other things
but then theres other bosses like leviathin i actually enjoyed going against and i had died to leviathin almost as much as i died to plantera or i had fun dying to providence but im not having that same fun to celestial void
even astrum aurus felt annoying that or summoner weapons at plantera time are just too weak (but even then with pre moonlord gear it still toook some attempts)
the mod is clearly only so populer and high rated because it was one of the first to receive massive attention and its well knowen to provide a good challenge against the player being more skill based than most mods out there (only rivled by something like fargous soul mod)
the mod has plenty of time to develop balance its self out etc but some issues are still there and it doesnt make it perfect or the automatic best out there
but regardless i think its a great introduction to the modded scense with great music keeping more in theme with normal terraria and great set of music ost
TL:DR
calamity isnt perfect and is praised way more because of the fact that it was one of the more OG mods and was very challenging over it being on of the best mods to have ever been made
some fights even now just seem unfair and not in a good / challenging way either

brimstone elemental's before the pillars anyway and she's the hottest thing in the entire mod, puns entirely intended
Everything else is just subjective "I like x better than y" "I think Z is bad" , no one cares what you think (or I think or anyone else for that matter)
Stop wasting time and energy on useless complaints trying to farm useless awards.
Edit I will take my own advice and just leave this pointless topic, Adios
You know what? I somehow remembered this thread again after youtube trying to shove more calamity slop into my throat, and after playing some shmups like Dodonpachi SaiDaiOuJou and Devil Blade.
It's not a "I think" problem.
I have never, ever seen something so primitive and yet so highly praised like calamity mod.
The boss designs are basic, badly telegraphed, attack pattern unbalanced and random, with pacing all over the place, and even the bullet sprites look bad. It's almost exactly designed against players learning the patterns and towards farming cheap deaths it's laughable.
It's obvious the devs understand nothing about game design, and have zero passion in spending any effort to make any of the bosses good. I genuinely think the devs would improve their design by just clicking stuff randomly in crazystorm (it's the engine powering Touhou FDF series, also made in C# and with duct tape like calamity so I don't think programming skill is the limit here).
nice necro.
anyways why do you care if people like objectively bad games/mods? I dont really understand why people spend time complaining about games they dont like. just dont play them. dont interact with it. there are tons of popular games i think are overrated but you dont see me complaining about em.
