i had the same problem so i refought it the next day, it did nothing.
so i decided to turn down the difficulty and that worked.

i dont know whats up with it, i was playing with my family and we killed it and when the core was getting ready to disappear my brother kept swinging at it. Then it said it was defeated.

for me i end up killing the corruption one, then we get about a quater of the way into the crimson one and it just runs off and despawns itself
