i cant get wood

so im trying to start a new calamity world for myself and ive been trying to get wood from a tree and it drops nothing sometimes it would drop one wood or just an acorn but ive tried everything im left clicking and checking my mods but it just wont let me get wood from trees pls help

You can smack a tree once and it might drop a goodie like a single wood or even a coin but to break the tree down you have to keep holding the left mouse down.
