TML vs Vanilla workshop update ?
Is TML rendered useless now with the Vanilla workshop update ?

Not at all. From what I'm seeing you don't get nearly the same amount of dedication and content that TML offers. From what I looked at, Workshop mostly has textures, meme-y junk, and the popular ones are just journey-mode stuff.
Not speaker for the modders, but I don't think they'll just switch to vanilla workshop after all the work they put into TML, but who knows

Vanilla workshop has NO mod support, it's just for maps and textures. TML is being updated for 1.4 so there will be mod support eventually for the last Terraria version. :keropink:

Yeah the workshop integration only supports superficial changes right now: textures, sounds, maps.

Actually modifying the game files themselves still requires dedicated 3rd party work: tmod, .exe edditing.

So this doesn't offer actual modding support, so much as cosmetic support.

star citizen out before TLM 1.4

almost 1 year that the development of TLM 1.4 is not moving because they wants to keep it only for their ego instead of leaving it in open source

if the TLM 1.4 have been open source, we would have already had it in June 2020

While Mr.Pink's statement about stroking egos is certainly going about it pretty rudely and grossly exaggerated, he might have a point the when it comes to open source as one of its greatest perks is transparency and free contribution, I mean if we had the people behind x64 branch, Terraria Overhaul, Calamity, Thorium, and everyone else with programming experience working on 1.4, we might at least have a beta by now or at least a rough estimate, as it stands we're still on x32 for people like myself that love to have all the good mods it's pretty disappointing to have to wonder if the new update that pops up is it so I can understand some frustration. Now don't get me wrong I greatly appreciate everything the team is doing for this game and will and its continued work despite some of these comment, I will even state that I could never do what they have done. I can only hope that some news of 1.4 comes out or at least an official x64 support so I can have all the mods.

they will have mods soon the only reason it doesnt have them yet is because modders have not uploaded their mods to it yet starbound doesnt need some kind of outside thing to make the mods work you just add them from the workshop and it works so no reason terraria cant do the same

Are you actually comparing mods from two different games on two different engines?

im just saying theres no reason why mods wouldnt work from the workshop its just that no modders have updated their mods since they were waiting for the tmodloader update that was never going to release but now they can start updating their mods to 1.4 now

wtf is a TLM? it can't be tmodloader, because tmodloader is open source.

you can even download beta 1.4 builds some kind folks have provided in their own forks of the repository (but these are very unofficial, and not really ready for players).

as for why mods wouldn't work from the workshop: they won't because the workshop doesn't automagically add an api for mods to use. that's what tmodloader does.

starbound provides its own mod api, terraria does not.

Modding terraria is quite literally impossible without extensive file modifications OR tModLoader. Trying to use the Workshop for modifying things other than the intended things for vanilla Terraria would not work, because vanilla Terraria was not designed for it.

tModLoader IS open source. You can publicly see and verify their progress here:

The last commit/update to their WIP build was eight hours ago.
