Not speaker for the modders, but I don't think they'll just switch to vanilla workshop after all the work they put into TML, but who knows
Actually modifying the game files themselves still requires dedicated 3rd party work: tmod, .exe edditing.
So this doesn't offer actual modding support, so much as cosmetic support.
almost 1 year that the development of TLM 1.4 is not moving because they wants to keep it only for their ego instead of leaving it in open source
if the TLM 1.4 have been open source, we would have already had it in June 2020
Pfft.
wtf is a TLM? it can't be tmodloader, because tmodloader is open source.
you can even download beta 1.4 builds some kind folks have provided in their own forks of the repository (but these are very unofficial, and not really ready for players).
as for why mods wouldn't work from the workshop: they won't because the workshop doesn't automagically add an api for mods to use. that's what tmodloader does.
starbound provides its own mod api, terraria does not.
Modding terraria is quite literally impossible without extensive file modifications OR tModLoader. Trying to use the Workshop for modifying things other than the intended things for vanilla Terraria would not work, because vanilla Terraria was not designed for it.
tModLoader IS open source. You can publicly see and verify their progress here:

The last commit/update to their WIP build was eight hours ago.
