Is Tmodloader and add on to terraria and did I just waste my money or do you need terraria to use tmodloader??

#2 of course TMODLoader requires Terraria, it's an add-on that lets you load mods in terraria, that's it.

#3 how did you 'waste money' on a FREE piece of software? You literally can't spend money on Tmodloader, unless you bought Terraria itself by accident?

Yes you need Terraria to play Terraria with mods. No free rides here.

Play Terraria first then come back with mods when you know a bit more than you do now.

My point was I bought Terraria way before tmodloader came out on steam I was just asking if I wasted money because I initially bought Terraria on Steam so I could get the tmodloader off the official website. I've already played Terraria on past multiple platforms including this one. It just doesn't show the stats because I have no idea but I have played through steam. @ToeNail @Humble

It's a modloader. It requires the base game. Without that, it won't work. It's like asking if you need a car to use a muffler. Of course you do, what are you going to do with a muffler if you don't have a car?

No, you can just use any old Modloader even downloaded from the internet.

If you've bought Terraria on steam, then you can use Tmodloader without any additional charges.

Tmodloader on steam is FREE, but requires that you buy Terraria for it to work.

You can either use the steam version of Tmodloader, or the one of the terraria forums, but neither is updated to Terraria 1.4 yet.

If you own Terraria on steam, you'll be able to download and play Terraria with NO ADDITIONAL PURCHASE.

If you already had some other PC version of Terraria, then you could have downloaded tModLoader from the official site, the Steam release is only for the convenience of having it all on Steam.

and don't say it was for tml that's just a load of crap all you have to do is download the tml files and add them to terraria. pretty simple.
